Kiasma Library – an information centre for contemporary art – opens to the public

Share
A new library presenting the diverse art of the Finnish National Gallery will open to the public at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma on Friday 9 October. Bringing together museum visitors, researchers and artists, Kiasma Library will serve as a public information centre providing more detailed information about the museum’s current exhibitions and programme. The library is located in new premises on the 5th floor of Kiasma.

Kiasma Library specialises in contemporary art with sections dedicated to Finnish contemporary art, the latest international trends in contemporary art and associated theoretical literature, contemporary artists included in the collections of the Finnish National Gallery, and art periodicals.

Visitors also have access to tablet computers providing information about Kiasma exhibitions and collections, for example. The tablet computers can also be used to browse the Finnish National Gallery’s comprehensive digital database and selected items from its audiovisual archives.

In addition to Kiasma, the Finnish National Gallery also includes the Ateneum Art
Museum and the Sinebrychoff Art Museum.

Researchers planning to visit the library are encouraged to reserve space in advance due to the limited number of research areas inside the library. Information services should also be reserved in advance for assistance with in-depth searches. For reservations and enquiries, please contact: kirjasto@kansallisgalleria.fi

Researchers also have access to microfiche equipment for reading press clippings on artists
published between 1897 and 1999. Audiovisual archives can also be accessed via the Avokaado database. For reservations and enquiries, please contact: tutkimus@kansallisgalleria.fi

The library of the Finnish National Gallery is the largest library in Finland specialising in art. The library operates in two locations at Kiasma and Ateneum. The Kiasma Library has material on contemporary art dating from the 1960s onwards, while the Ateneum Research Library focuses on Finnish art history. The Sinebrychoff Research Library can be accessed in the Ateneum Research Library by appointment and includes literature on old international art.
