Kempower opens new research unit on LUT campus in Lappeenranta, Finland, to strengthen research and development of electric mobility
1.10.2025 10:00:00 EEST | Kempower Oyj | Press release
Kempower, a leading global provider of DC fast charging solutions, has established a new research unit on LUT University’s campus in Lappeenranta, Finland. The target of Kempower’s team in Lappeenranta is to strengthen research and development of EV charging technology and the future of electric mobility through the Electric Mobility Research Center (EMRC) which was established in 2023.

Currently there are six researchers working in the EMRC team in Lappeenranta together with two researchers from Kempower. More researchers will be recruited for the ongoing projects, such as HETE (Heavy Electric Traffic Ecosystem program) and future aviation. Furthermore, the location on LUT University’s campus in Lappeenranta gives possibilities to provide opportunities for doctoral thesis, thesis workers and trainees as well.
“Collaboration between industry and academia accelerates the translation of breakthrough research into scalable real-world solutions. Kempower’s partnership with LUT University to establish and scale the Electric Mobility Reseach Center is playing a key role in accelerating the transition to electric mobility. We are excited to take this partnership to the next level by establishing a new research unit on the Lappeenranta campus” said Kempower’s CEO, Bhasker Kaushal.
"Our most important task is, no more and no less, to save the world. In this work, we need outstanding companies such as Kempower by our side," said Juha-Matti Saksa, Rector of LUT University. "At LUT, we solve global challenges through science and education, and we provide companies with the expertise of top specialists as well as the skills and potential of our students to support their success."
“Kempower and LUT University have been partners since 2023, when we started the Electric Mobility Research Center, EMRC. LUT’s campus is an excellent location to have our researchers around the same desk in Lappeenranta. This will also strengthen the regional technology ecosystem and research cooperation between Lappeenranta and Lahti, where EMRC has been working as a central part of the Green Electrification of Mobility Cluster,” says Research Director and EMRC lead Ville Naumanen.
LUT University is one of Kempower’s international university networks together with Tampere University in Fnland, the FREEDM Systems Center at NC State in the US, and Technical University of Denmark.

Kempower and EVlution Charge advance port terminal electrification in Canada at Global Container Terminals in Port of Vancouver14.9.2026 09:00:00 EEST | Press release
Kempower, a leading global provider of DC fast-charging solutions for electric vehicles, and EVlution Charge, its official Sales and Service Partner in Canada, today announced the deployment of charging infrastructure at Global Container Terminals’ (GCT) Vancouver location, which serves the Port of Vancouver, one of Canada’s largest ports. The charging infrastructure supports the electrification of GCT’s service vehicle fleet and the demands of daily terminal operations. “Following a thorough technical and operational assessment, GCT selected Kempower for its charging density, reliability and flexibility to support our 24/7 terminal operations. The system enables opportunity charging during shift changes and breaks, maximizing equipment availability while minimizing operational disruption,” said Kyron Harvett, Manager Operations Technology at GCT. “We recently demonstrated this capability through a successful heavy-duty battery-electric terminal tractor trial, operating around the cloc
