DNA adds Viasat Ultra HD in its channel line-up as the first operator in Finland

Share
DNA is the first operator in Finland to broadcast the Viasat Ultra HD channel via its cable TV network. The 4K Ultra HD sports channel is available to all DNA cable TV network customers who have subscribed to one of the Viasat sports packages and have a UHD/4K-ready receiver. The new DNA TV-hubi makes it possible to watch and record 4K Ultra HD programmes.

Viasat Ultra HD is the first sports channel in Ultra High Definition (UHD), or 4K, resolution in the Nordics. Viasat Ultra HD covers, for example, the best matches from selected sports leagues and sports and lifestyle programmes produced by RedBull TV.

From today, Viasat Ultra HD can be viewed by all DNA cable TV network customers who subscribe for one of the Viasat sports channel packages via DNA and have a 4K Ultra HD ready receiver. The channel is added automatically to the packages of current subscribers, and is included in all new subscriptions. The channel number is 360. Viasat Ultra HD will initially be available on DNA’s cable TV network for a trial period of six months, after which DNA will make a decision on its future based on issues such as customer feedback.

“It is a fantastic experience to watch sports in 4K Ultra HD resolution, and Viasat Ultra HD is an extremely welcome addition to our offering. A large number of households connected to our cable TV network already have a 4K Ultra HD television. I believe that Viasat Ultra HD will become one of the favourite channels of sports fans who also value great picture quality,” says Mikko Saarentaus, Director at DNA’s Entertainment Business.

DNA broadcasts the Viasat Ultra HD channel on its cable TV network, and the channel can always be viewed in ultra-high resolution. One of the benefits of a broadcast on the cable TV network over 4K Ultra HD contents viewed through broadband is that the quality is always top level and unaffected by the data transmission rate or number of simultaneous viewers.

“On the cable TV network, viewers now mainly watch programmes in HD quality, and we are proud to take this viewing experience to a completely new level by being the first operator in Finland to launch Ultra HD,” says Saarentaus.

Image quality in 4K Ultra HD broadcasts is four times as high as in HD broadcasts. In addition to better quality, higher resolution also means enhanced colour.

“We are extremely proud to be the first in Finland, alongside DNA, to launch a 4K Ultra HD sports channel on the pay-TV market. People still mainly watch sports on large screens and image resolution plays a key role, particularly in fast-paced sports. The higher the image resolution, the better the viewing experience – it’s as simple as that,” says Mathias Norrback, CEO of Viasat Finland.

You need an 4K Ultra HD television to be able to watch the Viasat Ultra HD channel via DNA’s cable TV network. DNA recently launched a new-generation digibox, DNA TV-hubi, which enables viewing and also recording of 4K Ultra HD broadcasts. DNA TV-hubi is an Android TV device, which combines a digibox, Internet applications, games and music in a single package, and brings the app store world familiar from mobile phones to television.

DNA is Finland's biggest cable TV and pay-TV operator. Over 600,000 households are connected to DNA’s cable network. In addition to the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, the network is available in the Oulu, Kuopio, Lahti, Pori, Turku, Raisio, Rauma and Lohja areas.
