According to Jarno Haikonen, Vice President, Broadband and TV Business at DNA, three key characteristics were highlighted in the movie preferences of Finns during the Year of the Coronavirus: feelgood movies, familiar action movies and movies that were heavily debated in the media.

“With the exception of Joker, it’s evident that viewers in 2020 were interested in feelgood movies, such as Finnish comedies, and a variety of action comedies, such as Bad Boys for Life. They were also keen to watch sequels to familiar action movies, as both Rambo and Terminator hit the top ten,” says Haikonen.

“A Finnish movie for the whole family, Hayflower, Quiltshoe and the Feisty First-grader, also made the top rentals list – it also performed extremely well at the theatrical box office. The Renovation didn’t get to play in cinemas for long before the coronavirus came, but during that time it attracted plenty of viewers, and has been one of the most rented movies on DNA TV since its release.”

The top rentals of the Year of the Coronavirus also included movies that were debated in the media, especially Joker.

“It was a hit in the cinemas, attracted plenty of attention and was also successful at the Oscars. This same phenomenon was evident in the case of Ladies of Steel, too.”

Unique cooperation with Netflix improves the viewing experience

In addition to traditional TV, Finns are increasingly often watching movies on streaming services such as Netflix, with which DNA has launched globally unique collaboration.

“Streaming services pose heavy requirements on home broadband. Data volumes on network connections are growing constantly. Many Finns are now facing a situation in which their current broadband is no longer enough for their needs – it would be worth their while to update their home broadband to the 5G era. On 5G, Netflix, Disney Plus and other services run smoothly, whether you’re watching them on your big screen or on many devices simultaneously,” says Haikonen.

DNA is the first operator in the world to sell a home broadband subscription and the Netflix Family product – a Netflix 4K family subscription for four devices with one order and one invoice. With the DNA TV Hubi service, it’s easy to watch Netflix and other streaming services, such as Disney Plus, on your big screen at home.

DNA:n käyttämä 5G-verkko yltää nyt Etelä-Karjalassa liki joka kolkkaan11.4.2024 09:55:00 EEST | Tiedote

DNA:n käyttämän 5G-verkon rakennustyöt Etelä-Karjalassa ovat saavuttaneet pisteen, jossa 5G-verkon peitto yltää maakunnassa liki kaikkialle ja asukkaiden tavoittavuus lähestyy 100 prosentin tasoa heidän asuinpaikkojensa perusteella. Koko maan tasolla kuuluvuudessa on kuitenkin yhä alueellista vaihtelua, minkä vuoksi verkkoa parannetaan jatkuvasti. Tavoite on erityisesti maantieteellisen peiton vahvistaminen ja kasvattaminen. Laskennallisesti 5G-verkko tavoittaa noin 96 prosenttia suomalaisista koko maassa, yhteensä yli 250 paikkakunnalla. 5G-rakentamisen myötä paranevat myös 4G-yhteydet.

DNA’s 5G network in South Karelia now reaches nearly all parts of the region, and coverage of the population is approaching 100% based on residents’ location. At the national level, however, there are still regional variations in coverage, which is why the network is constantly being improved. In particular, DNA’s goal is to reinforce and increase geographic coverage. The 5G network has a theoretical coverage of around 96% of Finland’s population in more than 250 localities. The construction of 5G infrastructure also improves 4G connections.
