DNA's 5G expanded to Asikkala, Merikarvia, Raseborg and Uusikaupunki – population coverage exceeded 43% of Finns

Share

The most recent locations connected to DNA's 5G network are Asikkala, Merikarvia, Raseborg and Uusikaupunki. More than 43% of Finns already live in the network area, i.e. nearly 2.4 million people, in a total of 108 locations. With the regional spread of 5G, its popularity has also clearly increased. Of the new smartphones sold by DNA in June, two out of three were already 5G-capable.

  • In Asikkala, the 5G network has been built in Vääksy, southeast of the canal. The network will also be opened in the western parts of Salonsaari during the summer.
  • In Merikarvia, the 5G network mainly covers the area of the village.
  • In Raseborg, 5G covers the surrounding areas east and south of the centre of Karjaa. New 5G base stations will still be opened during the summer in Dragsvik, Sköldargård and Österby.
  • In Uusikaupunki, the 5G network initially reaches the Santtio and Janhua areas. In late summer, the network will also be built in Orivo, Santo, Saarnisto and Hiu.

In addition to these areas, DNA's 5G network is currently being expanded especially in Espoo, Forssa, the centre of Helsinki, Hämeenlinna, Jyväskylä, Kokkola, Lahti, Pori and Rauma. Later in the summer, coverage will be also expanded in Kirkkonummi, Porvoo, Raseborg, Seinäjoki and Vaasa.

Finnish Shared Network Ltd, a company jointly owned by DNA Plc and Telia Finland Oyj, is building the 5G network in northern and eastern Finland. The three-year construction project started in March and has progressed rapidly in Varkaus and surrounding areas. This year, Finnish Shared Network will open new base stations extensively in southeast Finland and at ski resorts in northern Finland.

DNA continuously monitors the usage volumes and capacity adequacy of its mobile network. Based on the statistics, the network is also renewed driven by needs. This means that older base stations will be replaced in locations where the need for additional transfer rates or capacity is the greatest. With new technology, the transfer rates and user experience of 4G customers will also improve.

"In the 5G area, 2G, 3G and 4G networks are also transferred to the new base station technology platform. This significantly increases capacity and transfer rates also for devices that use older technologies,” sums up Jarkko Laari, VP, Radio Networks at DNA.

DNA's 5G services can already be used in the following 108 locations:

Akaa, Alajärvi, Asikkala, Askola, Espoo, Eura, Eurajoki, Forssa, Haapavesi, Hanko, Harjavalta, Hattula, Hausjärvi, Heinola, Helsinki, Hollola, Hyvinkää, Hämeenlinna, Ii, Ilmajoki, Isokyrö, Janakkala, Jokioinen, Joroinen, Juupajoki, Jyväskylä, Jämsä, Järvenpää, Kaarina, Kangasala, Kankaanpää, Karkkila, Kaskinen, Kauhava, Kauniainen, Kerava, Kokemäki, Kokkola, Kouvola, Kristiinankaupunki, Kruunupyy, Kuopio, Kurikka, Kärkölä, Lahti, Laihia, Lapua, Laukaa, Lempäälä, Leppävirta, Lieto, Liminka, Lohja, Loimaa, Masku, Merikarvia, Muhos, Mäntsälä, Naantali, Nakkila, Nivala, Nokia, Nurmijärvi, Orimattila, Orivesi, Oulu, Padasjoki, Paimio, Parainen, Pedersöre municipality, Pietarsaari, Pirkkala, Pori, Porvoo, Punkalaidun, Pyhäjoki, Pälkäne, Pöytyä, Raahe, Raseborg, Raisio, Rauma, Riihimäki, Rusko, Saarijärvi, Salo, Sastamala, Seinäjoki, Siilinjärvi, Sipoo, Siuntio, Somero, Suonenjoki, Sysmä, Säkylä, Tampere, Teuva, Turku, Tuusula, Ulvila, Uusikaupunki, Vaasa, Valkeakoski, Vantaa, Varkaus, Vihti, Ylivieska and Ylöjärvi.
