Fennovoima’s year 2020 report published
Fennovoima's CEO Joachim Specht is satisfied with the progress of the Hanhikivi 1 project.
- We have a good year behind us. It is significant for both Fennovoima and the entire project, as we mainly achieved our goals and proceeded according to plan.
During the year, Fennovoima reviewed the plant's basic and layout design almost entirely. Fennovoima and the plant supplier RAOS Project resolved several issues that were open in the Hanhikivi 1 power plant design. The solutions were related to, for example, the plant's primary circuit, containment, and defense-in-depth.
Fennovoima also reviewed all buildings of the power plant. In practice, this meant assessing the basic and layout design of a total of about 150 buildings.
Licensing work aimed at construction license also progressed significantly during the year. By the end of the year, Fennovoima submitted six of a total of fifteen documentation packages to the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, the most important of which were licensing documentation describing the plant's key safety functions.
The plant's functional and physical design has mostly been finalized, and no significant changes are to be expected. We have good confidence in the design's appropriateness, says Petri Jyrälä, Fennovoima's Engineering Director.
Specht and Jyrälä emphasize that there are still issues to be solved in the Hanhikivi 1 project, but the past year has set a good foundation for the project.
- This year, we will work heavily to achieve the design maturity level required by the construction license. At the same time, we are preparing for the construction and operation of the plant. We already know that the Hanhikivi 1 plant's technical characteristics will provide us a safe and excellent power plant, Specht says.
The newly published Fennovoima's Year 2020 report provides a snapshot of the Hanhikivi 1 plant's design and safety assessment and our responsibility work. In the report, Fennovoima's experts share their views on their respective areas of responsibility and the project's next steps.
