Kempower has partnered with eTerminal to install rapid charging points at service stations owned by Estonia’s largest fuel retailer Terminal Group. The project’s first stage will see 73 charging points installed at 25 locations along Estonia’s main roads, boosting the country’s EV charging infrastructure.

Estonia is one of many countries in the European Union (EU) that has pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 as part of the European Green Deal. A significant aspect of this commitment involves decarbonizing its transportation sector, which is currently responsible for 20% of the country’s CO2 emissions.

Kempower and eTerminal will install rapid charging points at all service stations operated by the Terminal Group. The two companies have selected Kempower Power Units with Satellite systems and Station Chargers for the project, which will provide at least 150 kW of charging power at each location. The EU’s European Climate Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, which helps stakeholders deliver the European Green Deal, is co-funding the project.

The team delivered the first charging point earlier this year, with the project expected to be completed by the end of 2024. After completing the project’s first stage, Kempower and eTerminal will install further chargers at all Terminal Group service stations and expand the number of charging points at live locations when needed to support the increasing numbers of EVs on the road.

Commenting on the project, Tomi Ristimäki, CEO of Kempower, said:

“We’re excited to join forces with eTerminal to support Estonia’s transition to EV-friendly on-highway infrastructure. As well as facilitating increased EV usage with these new charging hubs, we use only renewable energy to power the charging stations, further supporting the European Green Deal.”

Kuldar Assmann, a Board Member at eTerminal, added:

“Kempower caught our eye with its futureproof take on EV charging and dynamic power management, which optimizes charging curves. Our combined expertise and shared commitment to the energy transition make us the ideal team to build charging stations for a greener future in Estonia.”
