Share
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi will visit Finland on 24–26 November at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä. While in Helsinki, Director General Grossi will also discuss with Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari and President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö.

Grossi will visit the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on Wednesday 25 November and meet with Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto and Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Skinnari. The topics of discussion will include the cooperation between Finland and the IAEA and topical nuclear arms control questions as well as the collaboration opportunities offered to companies by the IAEA. During his visit, Director General Grossi will also have a meeting with President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is an independent UN organisation created in 1957. It was set up to promote peaceful and safe use of nuclear energy and to ensure that nuclear material under its supervision or control is not used in such a way as to further any military purpose.

Finland is engaged in close cooperation with the IAEA and makes its expertise available also to other Member States through the IAEA. In 2020, Finland has also funded the IAEA's activities related to improving COVID-19 testing capacities in developing countries. Finland has provided substantive support to IAEA’s activities in monitoring the implementation of the Iran Nuclear Agreement (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), for example, and to strengthening nuclear security globally.
