MFA: Two children from al-Hol camp in the care of Finnish authorities


The Ministry for Foreign Affairs confirms that two Finnish children from the al-Hol camp are in the care of the authorities, who aim to repatriate them to Finland. The authorities will organise a press conference in Helsinki at a date to be announced later.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs will not publish any information on the children in order to ensure their privacy and security. Neither will it inform about the details of the authorities’ measures carried out abroad. No information will be provided about the return route or method. There will be no photo opportunity. 

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for measures relating to the provision of assistance to returnees while in Syria and during the journey to Finland. On 19 December 2019, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health informed: Finnish authorities preparing to receive children from al-Hol camp.

I april undertecknade utrikesministeriet och Nödcentralsverket ett avtal om att fortsätta utrikesministeriets jourcentralsverksamhet som en tjänst som produceras av Nödcentralsverket. Sedan den 1 augusti 2018 har Nödcentralsverket skött utrikesministeriets jourcenter utifrån ett avtal mellan myndigheterna. Jourcentrets verksamhet är en del av utrikesministeriets tjänster för resenärer i enlighet med lagen om konsulära tjänster och den samhälleliga säkerhetsstrategin.

In April, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Emergency Response Centre Agency signed an agreement, according to which the Emergency Response Centre Agency will continue to provide the Foreign Ministry’s round-the-clock services for Finnish citizens. Based on an agreement between the Ministry and the Emergency Response Centre Agency, the Agency has been responsible for the Ministry’s 24/7 consular services for Finnish citizens in difficulties abroad since 1 August 2018. The function is a part of the Foreign Ministry’s services for travellers as provided for in the Consular Services Act and the Security Strategy for Society.

Ulkoministeriö ja Hätäkeskuslaitos allekirjoittivat huhtikuussa jatkosopimuksen ulkoministeriön päivystyskeskustoiminnan jatkumisesta Hätäkeskuslaitoksen tuottamana palveluna. Hätäkeskuslaitos on 1.8.2018 lähtien vastannut ulkoministeriön päivystyskeskuksen toiminnasta virastojen väliseen sopimukseen pohjautuen. Toiminto on osa ulkoministeriön palvelua matkailijoille konsulipalvelulain ja yhteiskunnan turvallisuusstrategian mukaisesti.
