President of the Republic of Finland Sauli Niinistö had a thorough phone call with President of Russia Vladimir Putin on Friday, 17 September 2021.

In addition to the bilateral relations between Finland and Russia, the Presidents spoke about the situation in Afghanistan, Arctic initiatives, the security of Europe, and the EU’s strategic autonomy. The Presidents also continued their discussion about the Helsinki Spirit.

Exponeringen har skett vid det internationella förintelseforumet i Malmö onsdagen den 13 oktober, där president Niinistö diskuterade med Lettlands president Egils Levits över frukost. Senare testades president Levits positiv för coronaviruset. President Niinistö håller sig för säkerhets skull i karantän och testas för coronaviruset.

The exposure occurred at Malmö International Forum on Holocaust on Wednesday, 13 October, as President Niinistö had a discussion with President of Latvia Egils Levits during breakfast. President Levits later tested positive for COVID-19. As a precaution, President Niinistö will self-isolate and take a COVID-19 test.

President Niinistö will attend a seminar on demilitarisation and neutralisation of Åland and deliver its opening speech. President Niinistö will also meet regional representatives and discuss topical issues of the Åland Islands with them. This seminar is one in a series of events organised to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Åland Islands’ autonomy. On 20 October 2021, one hundred years will have passed since the Åland Convention on the demilitarisation and neutralisation was signed.

Office of the President of the Republic of Finland Press release 20/2021 12 October 2021 President of Estonia Alar Karis will make his first visit to Finland on Thursday 14 October 2021. President Niinistö will meet President Karis at the Presidential Palace. The topics of discussion will include bilateral relations between Finland and Estonia, as well as other topical international issues. At the end the meeting, the Presidents will hold a joint press conference. For President Karis, who started his presidential term this week, this is the first foreign trip in his capacity as the President of Estonia. Earlier on the same day, he will also visit Latvia.
