Results published for the stress tests of European insurance companies
The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has today published the results of its stress test of European insurance companies.
The Finnish insurance companies participating in the stress test exercise were OP Financial Group and Sampo Group.
EIOPA carries out regular stress testing on insurance companies to assess how well the European insurance industry is able to cope with severe but plausible adverse developments in financial and economic conditions. Supervisors use the stress test results to, for example, identify vulnerabilities in the insurance industry.
The 2021 stress test focused on a prolonged COVID-19 scenario in a ‘lower for longer’ interest rate environment and evaluated its impacts on the capital and liquidity positions of the insurance companies.
The entities participating in the stress test may publish their results on a voluntary basis. Links to the results published by the companies are available on EIOPA's website.

Financial sector’s capital position as at 31 March 2022: Finnish financial sector’s good capital position increasingly important – uncertainty marks the operating environment and risks are elevated9.6.2022 09:45:00 EEST | Press release
The impacts of Russia’s war, the pick-up in inflation and slowdown in economic growth are creating a high level of uncertainty, accompanied by a rise in interest rates and decline in share values. The preparedness of supervised entities for the consequences of these developments and for possible cyber attacks requires sufficiently large capital buffers for all situations and voluntary contingency plans.
