All Yle HD channels will continue to be broadcast via DNA's terrestrial network
21.12.2015 09:01:45 EET | DNA Oyj | Press release
All four Yle HD or high definition channels can be viewed via DNA's terrestrial network for free and unencrypted.
“We are delighted to be able to continue offering Yle HD channels to households over the terrestrial network. Yle's investment in the development of its HD service is evident in its interesting programme content and high technical quality,” says Pekka Väisänen, Senior Vice President, Consumer Business.
“Yle will continue to provide HD services on the same terms and conditions as before, offering our high definition channels to television network operators free of charge. We are pleased to continue our excellent cooperation with DNA to further develop Finnish HD television services and their availability,” says Janne Yli-Äyhö, Chief Operations Officer, Yle.
DNA has invested heavily in constructing its own terrestrial network in recent years. Operating in the VHF band, DNA's terrestrial network focuses on offering HD channels in particular. It is already distributing 16 HD channels. The network is built on the new DVB-T2 technology, to which all terrestrial network services will switch in the future.
Households connected to the terrestrial network have shown increasing interest in HD channels, as HD content has expanded and viewers have purchased larger HD televisions. “Large screens really do justice to HD picture – HD quality is at its best when watching sports, movies and other entertainment,” Väisänen says.
“As almost half of Finnish households receive their television services via the terrestrial network, it is a vital distribution channel for us in addition to the cable network. Our goal is to offer households similar image quality and channel selection via the terrestrial network, as we do over the cable network. Yle HD channels are an integral part of this offering,” Väisänen says.
Two antennas provide access to the entire programme coverage of terrestrial networks
Almost everywhere in Finland, terrestrial network channel offering is built on the capacities of two separate terrestrial networks. The number of channels available for free or in channel packages has increased significantly. To enjoy the entire terrestrial network offering, HD channels included, two aerials are needed: a VHF antenna aimed at DNA's transmitter and a UHF antenna pointed at Digita's network.
A VHF antenna is a long-lasting, very reasonably priced investment that enables high-quality television viewing. Local antenna contractors will help to adjust an existing VHF antenna or install a new one in the property.
Watching HD channels via the terrestrial network requires a receiver that is Antenna Ready HD certified. Viewers can check whether their television is Antenna Ready HD compliant at the website www.testatutlaitteet.fi.
In addition to the terrestrial network, DNA provides television services via the cable network, and on mobile devices through broadband. DNA is the only on pay-TV service provider in the Finnish terrestrial network.

Smartphone use is declining among small children – but limiting the use is not enough20.5.2026 09:15:00 EEST | Press release
DNA is consistently developing children’s digital safety skills together with its partner Protect Children Association, which has been organizing digital safety workshops for young schoolchildren for several years. This spring, the company also distributed digital skills exercise booklets to more than 230,000 Finnish homes. Although children are starting to use smartphones later than before, they still face major risks online – which makes digital safety skills more important than ever. The topic is particularly relevant right now, as school summer holidays begin before many parents start their own vacations. In June, many children spend long periods at home and online without adult supervision, which increases the risk of encountering harmful content or inappropriate contact.
Electronics often overlooked in spring cleaning – old devices should not be left at the back of a drawer19.5.2026 13:00:00 EEST | Press release
During spring cleaning, old phones, tablets and cables often end up back at the bottom of drawers in many homes, as people are unsure what to do with them or are unfamiliar with proper recycling methods. According to Jesse Kieksi, Head of Device Sales at DNA, this is a harmful habit that can lead to data security and safety risks, as well as unnecessary financial loss and environmental harm.
