Finland condemns North Korea's missile launch

Foreign Minister Timo Soini roundly condemns the missile launch of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) on 7 February 2016. The launch of a missile reportedly carrying a satellite continues North Korea's series of violations against international agreements, the most recent on of which was a nuclear test on 6 January.

The launch, using ballistic missile technology, violates UN Security Council Resolutions and is an indication of North Korea's disregard for the reactions of the international community. Finland joins EU High Representative Federica Mogherini’s statement on the missile launch, issued on 7 February.

Finland urges North Korea to observe its international commitments and to refrain from actions that increase regional tensions and that deteriorate the security situation in the Korean Peninsula.

Finland invites North Korea to engage in close dialogue and cooperation with the international community and to fully participate in the Six-Party Talks aimed at a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.
