All Yle HD channels available through DNA's cable network from 28 January
Earlier this January, DNA announced it would introduce the Yle TV1 HD and Yle TV2 HD channels to its cable and terrestrial networks. The channel list of DNA's cable network will now be complemented further by the Yle Teema HD and Yle Fem HD high definition channels. DNA will broadcast all four of Yle's high definition channels through its entire cable network, which covers approximately 600,000 households in the Helsinki metropolitan area as well as the economic areas of Oulu, Lahti, Kuopio, Turku, Pori, Rauma and Lohja.
DNA will provide Yle's HD channels unencrypted and free of charge, so watching the channels through DNA's networks will not require a TV card or subscription.
”We are thrilled to be able to offer all four of Yle's HD channels through our cable network as soon as they start broadcasting. Home televisions are being rapidly updated to high definition devices, but a big HD screen will only come into its own when watching true high definition content, such as films, sports or music entertainment. Finnish people now have a unique opportunity to witness, for example, our own legendary ice hockey heroes, Teemu included, in the Olympic Games, in true high definition," says DNA's Director of Television Business Mikko Saarentaus.
Yle is constantly increasing its offering of true high definition content; for example, all drama produced by Yle is made in high definition. Sports fans will be able to follow the Sochi Winter Olympics in February and the FIFA World Cup in the summer, while music lovers enjoy the Eurovision song contest broadcast from Copenhagen in May – all in glorious high definition.
Yle's existing high definition compilation channel, Yle HD, will cease broadcasting when Yle makes all of its individual channels available in high definition.
Technical details of the service
Yle's high-definition channels are broadcast in widescreen (16:9) format. Sound is provided in Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo or as surround sound (5.1) if available. The broadcasts' image resolution is 1920 x 1080i.
Yle's HD channels will be available to most Finnish households through DNA. DNA will distribute the Yle TV1 HD and Yle TV2 HD channels also through its terrestrial VHF network, which covers 85 per cent of all Finnish households.
Yle's HD channels can be viewed through DNA's cable network with all devices equipped with an HD tuner. Receiving Yle's HD channels through DNA's terrestrial network requires a VHF-antenna adjusted to DNA's transmitter station and a DVB-T2 Antenna Ready HD receiver. Your area's TV installer can help you with adjusting and installing your antenna.
Channel numbers in DNA's networks:
• Yle TV1 HD = 21 (cable and terrestrial)
• Yle TV2 HD = 22 (cable and terrestrial)
• Yle Fem HD = 25 (cable)
• Yle Teema HD = 27 (cable)

Perheissä, joissa lapselle on päätetty hankkia puhelin yhteydenpitoa varten, on entistä useammin päädytty kellopuhelimeen. Kellopuhelimella on helppo rajoittaa lapsen älylaitteilla viettämää aikaa, mutta myös lykätä lapsen oman älylaitteen hankintaa.
School Survey: parents concerned about young children’s smartphone use – screen time is now being restricted at an accelerating rate7.8.2025 09:00:00 EEST | Press release
According to a School Survey commissioned by DNA, most parents limit the amount of time that children aged 5–12 can spend on their phones in one way or another. However, in spite of this, just over a third of 5–12-year-olds spend 2–4 hours a day on their phones. More and more families who want their children to have a phone for contact purposes have decided to get a smartwatch meant for kids. A smartwatch is an easy way to both limit the amount of time a child spends on smart devices and to postpone the purchase of their first smartphone.
