DNA Welho business to be concentrated in one company

Share
As of 1 March, DNA will combine all television and fixed-network broadband services into a single company, DNA Welho Oy.

DNA acquired the terrestrial-network pay TV provider PlusTV (DigiTV Plus Oy) in September 2013. As part of the development of the entertainment services offered by the DNA Group, DNA is combining the television and fixed-network broadband business operations of PlusTV and DNA Welho into a single company as of 1 January 2014. DigiTV Plus Oy will be renamed as DNA Welho Oy.

The product and service selection of PlusTV will be expanded, and moved under the DNA Welho brand in March. This enables DNA's entire television and fixed-network broadband business to operate under a single, clear brand: DNA Welho, which will also be the name of the subsidiary overseeing these lines of business.

“This change will combine our TV and broadband business into a distinct entity with extensive expertise in and a comprehensive product selection for cable, terrestrial and broadband networks. This change supports DNA's strategic objective of building the best overall entertainment service in Finland, with demonstrably the most satisfied customers," says Pekka Väisänen, VP for Consumer Business at DNA.

All products and services sold under the DNA Welho brand, along with all related customer accounts, and personnel, will be transferred to the new company. The transfer will not have an impact on the DNA Group's profit or personnel.

Subscribers to DNA Welho television and fixed-network broadband services, and those of PlusTV television services, will become customers of DNA Welho Oy. This change will not affect the customer relationship; only the service provider's name on the invoice, for example, will change to DNA Welho Oy. All customers will be notified of the change directly.

HD both in cable and terrestrial networks

DNA is the largest cable operator in Finland, and the leading pay TV operator both in cable and terrestrial networks. DNA's cable network has approximately 600,000 households in the Helsinki metropolitan area as well as the economic areas of Oulu, Lahti, Kuopio, Turku, Pori, Rauma and Lohja. DNA's terrestrial VHF network covers approximately 85 per cent of Finnish homes.

Thanks to the merger of DNA and PlusTV, terrestrial-network households can view the pay TV offering of both VHF and UHF networks using their existing TV card. PlusTV subscribers can now use all Antenna Ready HD approved high-definition devices and follow the high-definition channels broadcast through DNA's terrestrial network.

“Now is the time to update the receivers and antennas of terrestrial-network households, since all of this year's major events – such as the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Formula 1 season, Ice Hockey World Championships and FIFA World Cup – will be broadcast in high definition. Both pay TV channels and the new, free HD channels of Yle will feature high-definition offering,” says Väisänen.

All channels in the updated packages, high-definition offering included, can be viewed in the network's coverage area, as long as the building is equipped with a VHF antenna tuned to DNA's terrestrial-network transmitter and the household receiver has the Antenna Ready HD marking.

Onko 9%&GR hyvä salasana? DNA:n tietoturva-asiantuntija muistuttaa hyvistä salasanakäytännöistä maailman salasanapäivän aattona30.4.2025 08:55:00 EEST | Tiedote

Torstaina 1.5.2025 vietetään vapun lisäksi maailman salasanapäivää, jonka tarkoitus on muistuttaa paremmista salasanakäytännöistä.

Is 9%&GR a good password? DNA’s information security expert gives a reminder of good password habits on the eve of World Password Day30.4.2025 08:55:00 EEST | Press release

Thursday, May 1, 2025, will be – in addition to May Day – World Password Day, that promotes better password habits. It is a common misconception that a password should look cryptic in order for it to provide protection. According to DNA’s information security expert, this notion is outdated, as new methods are easily able to decrypt short passwords even if they contain special characters in a vague order.
