New Board members elected for Varma

In its meeting on 4 December 2012, Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company’s Supervisory Board elected the new members of the company’s Board of Directors. Of the members whose terms expired, Mikko Mäenpää, President, Finnish Confederation of Salaried Employees STTK, Lasse Laatunen, Director, Confederation of Finnish Industries EK, Mikael Aro, President and CEO, VR Group Ltd. and Ari Kaperi, Vice President of Nordea Bank AB (publ), will continue on Varma’s Board of Directors. The Board of Directors’ Deputy Chairman Ole Johansson has informed us that he will resign his position on Varma’s Board of Directors as of 31 December 2012. In his stead, the Supervisory Board elected Kari Jordan, President and CEO, Metsä Group, as a member of the Board of Directors. The Board will select a second Deputy Chairman from among its members in its meeting in January 2013.

The Supervisory Board confirmed the annual remuneration of the Board to be EUR 45,000 for the Chairman, EUR 32,000 for the Deputy Chairmen, EUR 18,000 for the members and EUR 13,000 for the deputy members. The remuneration paid for each meeting is EUR 600.


Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company is the largest earnings-related pension insurer and private investor in Finland. The company is responsible for the statutory earnings-related pension cover of some 870,000 people in the private sector. Premiums written totalled EUR 4.0 billion in 2011 and pension payments stood at EUR 4.2 billion. Varma’s investment portfolio amounted to EUR 34.5 billion at the end of September 2012.
