Varma’s Annual General Meeting appoints six new members to Supervisory Board

Varma’s Annual General Meeting on 19 March 2015 appointed six new members to the company’s Supervisory Board. The Annual General Meeting approved the financial statements and discharged the Board of Directors, the Supervisory Board and the President and CEO from liability.

The new members elected to the Supervisory Board are:

• Jarmo Hyvärinen, Chairman of MMA, the Union of Sales and Marketing Professionals
• Kari Jordan, President & CEO, Metsä Group
• Erkki Järvinen, President & CEO, Tikkurila Group
• Hannu Kottonen, President & CEO, HKScan Corporation
• Päivi Leiwo, Chair of the Board of Oilon Oy
• Christoph Vitzthum, President & CEO, Fazer Group

Continuing as Supervisory Board members are:
Juri Aaltonen, Martti Alakoski, Petri Castrén, Erkki Etola, Stig Gustavson, Tauno Heinola, Tapio Korpeinen, Päivi Kärkkäinen, Olli Luukkainen, Ilkka Nokelainen, Lauri Peltola, Juhani Pitkäkoski, Matti Rihko, Pertti Saarela, Mika Seitovirta, Saana Siekkinen, Leena Vainiomäki, Jorma Vehviläinen, Kari Virta, Anssi Vuorio, Satu Wrede and Göran Åberg.

The Annual General Meeting decided that the Supervisory Board’s remuneration would remain unchanged. The annual remuneration paid to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board is EUR 5,000, to the Deputy Chairman EUR 3,800 and to the members, EUR 2,500. Additional remuneration of EUR 300 is paid per meeting. Members of the Supervisory Board are insured under Section 8 of the Employees Pensions Act (TyEL), and a TyEL contribution is paid on the meeting fee.

The company is responsible for the statutory earnings-related pension cover of more than 860,000 people in the private sector. Premiums written totalled EUR 4.3 billion in 2014 and pension payments stood at EUR 5.0 billion. Varma’s investment portfolio amounted to EUR 40.0 billion at the end of 2014.
