As the first operator in Finland, DNA has adopted the IPv6 protocol for a wide range of mobile subscriptions. IPv6 can now be used with 1.2 million DNA mobile subscriptions, and next week the protocol will be deployed in over 2 million consumer and corporate subscriptions. In addition, the functionality will also be added to all cable broadband subscriptions.

As the first operator in Finland, DNA offers an extensive selection of mobile consumer subscriptions that use the IPv6 protocol. IPv6 can now be used with 1.2 million DNA subscriptions, and tens of thousands of customers have already implemented the functionality. Next week, the protocol will be deployed across all mobile consumer subscriptions and the majority of corporate mobile subscriptions. IPv6 will also be brought to all cable broadband subscriptions and to a notable part of Ethernet subscriptions during the summer.

”We are the first operator in Finland to deploy IPv6 to this extent. As forerunners, we consider it crucial to get up and running quickly and bring IPv6 support to as many subscriptions as possible, and to offer devices with IPv6 support. For the average end-user the change has no effect and it does not require any action from them, but, for example, online game players and users of various remote-controlled services will benefit from IPv6,” says Business Manager Mika Husso from DNA.

DNA will automatically update its subscriptions to support IPv6. The current IPv4 and new IPv6 protocols will function side by side, and many new devices support the new protocol automatically, so the update will require no action on the part of users. You can test your device's IPv6 compatibility from the link on DNA's IPv6 information site, www.dna.fi/ipv6.

DNA will participate in the National IPv6 Deployment Day on 9 June 2015.

What benefits will IPv6 bring to users?

Every device or service connected to the internet requires an IP address to form a connection. The explosive growth in the number of devices connected to the internet will eventually use up the IPv4 addresses currently being used. The larger number of IPv6 addresses will secure public IP addresses for all subscription types, mobile subscriptions included. IPv6 will also improve the quality of remote connections and services such as online gaming. The IPv6 protocol will also be useful in the rapidly growing Internet of Things (IoT), as separate addresses can be provided to all devices, ensuring the seamless operation of services.

More information on DNA products and devices that currently support the IPv6 protocol can be found on the IPv6 information site www.dna.fi/ipv6 (in Finnish).
