Traffic volume in DNA’s mobile network exceeded the volume of fixed broadband network
In August, DNA’s fixed broadband network handled approximately 27,000 terabytes of data per month, whereas the data volume in mobile network was significantly higher, nearly 32,000 terabytes. Mobile network traffic is estimated to grow at an increasing speed in years to come.
“This summer was a turning point. Now approximately 18 per cent more data is transmitted in DNA’s mobile network than in the fixed broadband network. Further, our mobile network’s momentary traffic peak was record-high in August. Although data usage was higher in August than ever before, also peak traffic grew most in the period in question. In practice, the network’s throughput is thus at an excellent level, which our customers experience as high-quality connections,” says Ville Virtanen, Head of Department, Access Network, at DNA.
In addition to mobile network traffic, traffic in DNA’s fixed network also grew in August.
“We naturally also focus on developing our fixed broadband network. We can provide households and companies with access speeds of gigabit order. For households we provide access without any changes in the housing company’s internal network,” says Virtanen.
Earlier this year, survey company Tefficient published a report* indicating that DNA’s customers were the world’s most active mobile data users in 2015.
“Our customers have excelled in the use of mobile data. According to Tefficient, nearly six gigabytes of data per month and subscription were transmitted in our network last year, which is the highest score in the world,” says Virtanen.
DNA continues to invest in the coverage and capacity of the mobile network. 4G traffic is growing strongly: today over 70 per cent of all data are transmitted in 4G network. In August, DNA’s 4G population coverage was over 98 per cent, and by the turn of the year it will exceed 99 per cent.

Only one in three companies has an AI policy4.6.2025 08:30:00 EEST | Press release
Many workplaces are already experimenting with a variety of AI applications in order to make work faster and more efficient. The main risk in using them is that critical business information could be leaked to external parties, even when this is easily preventable. Before you rush headlong into outsourcing your work to AI applications, it’s a good idea to establish proper policies and guidelines. Yet unfortunately, few companies have done so.
