The iconic orange color is a happy coincidence. The first scissors prototype was produced with the machine that manufactured Fiskars juicers, which utilized the same color orange. In the final vote, orange beat black by 9 votes to 7. The color orange is now an official trademark color of Fiskars and a visual indicator of the brand, signaling quality, durability and design. The exhibition will launch with a VIP event on Sept. 7 and will be open to the public from Sept. 8 – Oct. 29, 2017. Works inspired by the scissors will be displayed from fashion designers Tracy Reese, Katie Ermilio and Martin Bergström; paper artists Eloise Corr Danch, Karen Bit Vejle and JUDiTH+ROLFE; illustrator Laura Ljungkvist; Grace Bonney of the blog Design*Sponge; designer Tuula Pöyhönen; and Berliner art collective TAPE THAT.

"This exhibition is a celebration of the Scissors' role as a design classic that is used and recognized across the globe. We want to inspire the next 50 years,” said Vice President of Brand and Integrated Marketing at Fiskars, Marika Orkamo.

Fiskars has been celebrating the anniversary by collecting consumer stories from around the world via social media leading up to the anniversary date of October 5, 2017.

“Every pair of Orange-handled Scissors™ comes with its own story, whether it’s being told not to touch ‘mom’s scissors’ or passing them down for generations,” said President of Fiskars Global Functional, Paul Tonnesen. “What better way to honor the Orange-handled Scissors™ on this anniversary than to share these stories worldwide?”
