The OverDrive collection features more than 3,000 magazines from around the world. The latest issues will be available right away, and the older issues are also accessible via the archive. Customers do not need to reserve or queue for the magazines; instead, they can be borrowed by an unlimited number of customers at the same time. The selection includes magazines in a wide range of different areas, from entertainment to hobbies and from politics to economics. There are also several digital magazines that customers have requested to see in Helmet’s collections, including The Economist Continental Europe Edition, Vanity Fair UK, Stern and Paris Match. Customers can read magazines easily in the Libby app, which also offers e-books.

“OverDrive is an excellent addition to our online magazine services. Digital magazines have been particularly popular during the pandemic, especially when it hasn’t been possible to read magazines in the libraries,” says Virva Nousiainen-Hiiri, head of library network services at Helsinki City Library.

An extensive collection of Finnish and international magazines

International digital magazines and newspapers are now available via three different services: OverDrive, as well as Flipster and PressReader, which have already been available for some time.

Flipster offers dozens of magazines and newspapers in English, including Science, TIME, People and The New Yorker. The popular Spanish-language magazine Hola and the Finnish Pelit magazine are also available.

PressReader offers thousands of magazines and newspapers from about 120 countries and in 60 languages. Newspapers available include The Guardian, Svenska Dagbladet and The Washington Post. PressReader also offers Hufvudstadsbladet, a Swedish-language newspaper from Finland.

Emagz includes more than 60 Finnish magazines, such as Anna, Kotiliesi, Suomen Kuvalehti and Tekniikan Maailma.

You can read all the magazines and newspapers free of charge on the Helmet website: www.helmet.fi/elehdet

When schools end, young people celebrate together and usually spend time outdoors until late at night. This spring, professionals and volunteers are concerned about unauthorised fireworks.
