Academy of Finland’s call for research on key areas of green and digital transition to open in August

The Academy of Finland is allocating 25 million euros to fund research on key areas of green and digital transition in 2021. The call for applications will open on 11 August and close on 8 September. The funding decisions will be made by the end of the year.

In line with the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and Finland’s Sustainable Growth Programme, this special funding by the Academy will support the dual green and digital transition.The funding is intended for research that promotes solutions related to carbon neutrality and adaptation to climate change as well as related digital technologies.The aim is to strengthen existing competence clusters in this thematic area and also to promote competence development outside the clusters.

Funding can be applied for by multidisciplinary consortia working in cooperation with different actors and end-users of research results.The Academy invites applications from all fields of research.The decisions will be made so as to ensure that the projects to be funded focus on measures supporting both the green and digital transition.

Finlands Akademi har fattat beslut om vilka projekt som beviljas bidrag i vinterutlysningen, Akademins stora utdelning av forskningsfinansiering. I vinterutlysningen 2025 beviljade Akademin drygt 220 miljoner euro i finansiering för ett brett spektrum av forskning inom olika vetenskapliga discipliner. Med denna summa finansieras 121 nya akademiforskare, tolv nya kliniska forskare och 269 nya akademiprojekt (räknat enligt delprojekt). Dessa mångsidiga forskningsprojekt representerar internationell spetskompetens inom sina respektive områden. Genom den banbrytande forskning som Akademin finansierar skapas kompetens som gynnar hela samhället.

Suomen Akatemia on päättänyt rahoitettavat tutkimushankkeet keskeisessä rahoitushaussaan. Rahoitusta myönnettiin talvihaussa 2025 yli 220 miljoonaa euroa kattavasti eri tieteenalojen tutkimuskokonaisuuksiin. Yhteensä Akatemia rahoittaa 121 uutta akatemiatutkijaa, 12 kliinistä tutkijaa ja 269 akatemiahanketta osahankkeet mukaan luettuna. Monipuoliset tutkimushankkeet edustavat omien tieteenalojensa kansainvälistä kärkeä. Rahoitettavalla uudella tutkimuksella luodaan osaamista koko yhteiskunnan käyttöön.

The Research Council of Finland (RCF) has decided on the research projects to be funded in its main funding call. The RCF’s total funding awarded in the 2025 winter call comes to more than 220 million euros, granted for a wide range of research across different scientific disciplines. The funding goes towards 121 new Academy Research Fellows, twelve new Clinical Researchers and 269 new Academy Projects (counted by subproject). This vast array of research projects represents the international forefront of the research fields involved. The funded research will contribute to creating new knowledge and skills that will benefit society as a whole.

Finlands Akademis akademiprogram för idrottsforskning (ACTIVE) främjar forskningens kvalitet, förnyelse och genomslag inom fysisk aktivitet, motion och idrott. I programmets senaste ansökningsomgång fördelade Akademin totalt 2,43 miljoner euro till tre enskilda projekt och två konsortier. Inom utlysningen inkom 36 ansökningar för en total summa på nästan 18 miljoner euro.
