Kempower to fund Finland’s first PhD in E-Mobility

- LUT University has established Finland’s first PhD in E-Mobility to support innovations and businesses in the area.
- Kempower will fund the PhD for five years with a total investment of EUR 100,000.
- Offering the funding continues Kempower’s commitment to be close to Finland’s students, having recently announced its intention to open a research and development center at Tampere University Campus.
Kempower has agreed to provide funding for Finland’s first PhD in E-Mobility at Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology LUT (LUT University).
The academic program is being established to provide Finnish technology companies with the latest research data, plus support innovations and businesses in e-mobility solutions. Kempower will provide EUR 100 000 to fund the PhD in E-Mobility for the first five years that it is offered.
“EV charging systems are an integral part of the E-Mobility infrastructure, and the related research and technological development provides excellent challenges for researchers in the field of technology. We are happy to do this work with technology companies,” said Olli Pyrhönen, Dean, LUT University’s School of Energy Systems.
“As a fast-growing technology company in the field of e-mobility, we are delighted and proud to support this unique PhD. It’s important that we have research and training opportunities close to our operations in Lahti. Establishing this PhD in E-Mobility will increase the availability of skilled employees in the region, plus opens up the possibility of cooperating further with LUT University,” said Tomi Ristimäki, CEO of Kempower.
"In today's society, only the universities, cities and regions that offer innovative and interesting education opportunities relating to technology will thrive and help local business to flourish," added Tomi.
Kempower is committed to working closely with academia and researchers and being close to students from technology-focused universities and polytechnics. In September 2021, the company announced its intention to open a new research and development center at Finland’s Tampere University Campus. Kempower will initially recruit 15 research and development professionals to work at the facility.
