The future and responsibility will be discussed at PacTec, FoodTec & PlastExpo Nordic

PacTec, FoodTec & PlastExpo Nordic, the event that brings together professionals in the packaging, food and plastics industries, invites you to discuss and hear the latest about the industry and future prospects at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre 18-19 May 2022. The programme of the event entity has now been published!

The themes of the PacTec, FoodTec & PlastExpo Nordic event will cover current topics in the fields, and the event will discuss, among other things, the circular economy, legislation, the potential of plastics, packaging as a messenger as well as e-commerce and digitalization. The event looks to the future and considers the potential of the packaging, plastics and food sectors from many perspectives.

In the keynote speech on the PacTec & FoodTec stage on Wednesday, the Finnish national basketball team Susijengi’s former head coach Henrik Dettmann talks about the importance of leadership and teamwork on the road to success. Thursday’s keynote speech will feature futurist Elina Hiltunen. Listed by Forbes to be among the world’s 50 leading female futurists, Hiltunen talks about megatrends and how the world changes at the PlasteExpo stage.

Coming up: an overview of the future prospects and innovations

The programme at the PacTec & FoodTec stage will be launched on Wednesday 18 May with a panel discussion on the European PackAlliance that works for future innovations, training and collaboration in the packaging industry. The panel is chaired by Sanna Piispa, Development Manager at Pyroll Packaging.

And what will be the future of exports? Esa Wrang, Head of Program for Business Finland’s Food from Finland programme, talks about the strengths of Finnish food in exports on Wednesday and offers an overview of the future of international trade.

The future of the packaging industry is also being developed within legislation. Juha-Heikki Tanskanen, CEO of Finnish Packaging Recycling RINKI, will shed light on the expansion of producer responsibility regarding packaging on Wednesday: what will the recycling requirements for packaging waste look like in 2025 and 2030 and what are the requirements of the directive for disposable plastics.

On the PlastExpo stage there will be discussions on, among other things, new materials and the possibilities of plastics. On Wednesday, the stage programme will kick off with a New Plastics Center NPC seminar that will cover the topic comprehensively. The seminar will be opened by Sauli Eerola, Managing Director of Muovipoli Oy. The seminar will also feature, among others, Borealis Polymers Programme Manager Jari Lehtinen and Sustainability Director Maiju Hietala of Brightplus Oy.

 

Responsibility and circular economy topics of discussion at the fair

Responsibility and circular economy will be reflected in the fair programme throughout the event. The theme is broadly discussed within industries and will be featured on both the PacTec & FoodTec stage as well as on the PlastExpo stage.

On Wednesday 18 May, Marja-Liisa Weckström, Communications and Resposibility Director at Sinebrychoff, will speak about a more sustainable beverage business on the PlastExpo stage. In the beverage value chain, packaging has the largest impact on the climate. Weckström explains how the carbon footprint of a beverage bottle can be reduced. On the same day, also on the PlastExpo stage, Anssi Mikola, Managing Director of RiverRecycle Oy, talks about how Western brands can make the plastic value chain sustainable and at the same time increase their brand value.

On Thursday 19 May, Kirsi Mononen, Apila Group’s Development Director will speak about how material-wise product design and development creates circular economy.

On the PacTec & FoodTec stage, VTT’s Senior Scientist Jussi Lahtinen will give a presentation. On Thursday 19 May Lahtinen will present an overview on the world of reusable packaging through the 4everPack project.

Participation in the novelty competition possible until 1 May

At PacTec, FoodTec & PlasticExpo Nordic, the most interesting new products in the field are awarded. Exhibitors may enter their novelties in the competition until 1 May on the event website. Registered exhibitors will be able to present their novelties on stage. Jury panels consisting of experts in the field will select the most interesting novelty at PacTec & FoodTec and PlastExpo Nordic on 18 May. The winners will receive a € 2,500 prize from the Finnish Fair Foundation, as well as visibility in trade publications and the event’s web page and social media.
