HPO to perform chamber music in the libraries of Helsinki this November

Share
The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra is once again teaming up with the Helsinki City Library for a chamber music tour in local libraries throughout the city this November. Musicians from the orchestra, which is currently celebrating its 140th anniversary, will perform at twelve libraries, conveying their chamber music greetings with Finnish, Norwegian and Bohemian melodies. Each library concert will last approximately half an hour, and admission is free of charge.

This is the third year of the Philharmonic at the Library tour.

“Our previous library tours have received a lot of warm feedback from library users, which is a big source of joy for us as an orchestra. Locals have already begun looking forward to our library concerts. The city’s own philharmonic orchestra has brought classical music to the people of Helsinki now for 140 years, and lighting up November with chamber music concerts is a pleasant honour for our musicians,” says Aleksi Malmberg, General Manager of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Philharmonic at the Library tour begins on Thursday 1 November at Malmi Library and ends on Thursday 25 November at Jakomäki Library. The half-hour concerts begin at noon or 6pm. The tour provides easy access to high-quality chamber music concerts for local residents in their own public libraries.

“Libraries and culture are inextricably linked. I am really happy that chamber music concerts by musicians from the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra can be heard for the third year in a row throughout the city,” says Katri Vänttinen, Director of Library Services at the City of Helsinki.
