DNA’s used phone marketplace, Vaihtokapula, is starting a collaboration with SOS Children’s Village
DNA Plc started a collaboration with SOS Children’s Village already in 2011. One of the supported targets has been the SOS Children’s Village’s Apuu chat service, which provides help for children and young people experiencing insecurity. Starting from the Children’s Rights Week beginning on November 20, DNA’s used phone marketplace, Vaihtokapula, will join the collaboration. From the theme week until the end of 2023, Vaihtokapula will donate 10 euros from each sold phone to the development and operation of the Apuu chat service.

International Children’s Rights Day is celebrated annually on November 20. Children’s Rights Week is a theme week celebrated in connection with Children’s Rights Day, aiming to increase the awareness of the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child and the realization of children’s rights. This year, the theme of the week is the child’s right to well-being.
The SOS Children’s Village’s Apuu chat service is aimed at children aged 7-15 who feel threatened or insecure. Through the chat, children and young people can independently seek help for their difficult life situations. The service, launched during the Corona era, quickly proved to be very important, and in 2022 there were already over 60,000 contacts to the service. Nowadays, Apuu chat helps hundreds of children daily, and unfortunately, the number of serious contacts leading to a crime report is increasing. The important service stays up through volunteer work and donations.
DNA started selling used phones in January 2023 by opening the Vaihtokapula.fi marketplace. The goal is to make the extension of phone lifecycles profitable and sustainable business. From the launch, Vaihtokapula has been strongly popular among families with children. One key reason for this is that in addition to flagship models equipped with top features, there are always also very affordable phones from many brands. Phones for the smallest family members often disappear and break, so there are also models that suit well a child starting their digital life.
Circular economy, sustainable development, and digital equality have been at the center of operations from the beginning, so starting a collaboration with SOS Children’s Village corresponds to Vaihtokapula’s values. To remind people of children’s rights, and to support the promotion of youth well-being, Vaihtokapula will donate 10 euros to Apuu chat for each phone sold from November 20, 2023, until the end of year 2023. The accumulated funds will be used in full for the operation and development of the Apuu chat service.
“At the end of the year, there are several global consumption celebrations. We also price our products according to market conditions, but with our campaign, we wanted to remind everyone what is really important - children and their well-being now and in the future. Hopefully, this campaign timed for the toughest sales season of the year will make as many people as possible think about children and young people in a weaker position,” comments Mikko Valtonen, director, Mobile Communications at DNA.
The SOS Children’s Village organization is also excited about the new form of cooperation with DNA.
“The partnership with DNA has always been exciting and bold. Over the years, we have succeeded together in supporting and promoting the well-being of more and more children, families, and young people. It’s really great that Vaihtokapula, which focuses on the circular economy of mobile phones, is also joining the effort,” says Maria Ulvinen, Corporate Partnership Manager at SOS Children’s Village.

Torstaina 1.5.2025 vietetään vapun lisäksi maailman salasanapäivää, jonka tarkoitus on muistuttaa paremmista salasanakäytännöistä.
