Finnish beer restaurant’s records hit again – sells 1341 different beer grades in 2023

Olutravintola Konttori serves both casual passers-by and beer lovers with passion in the centre of Tampere, Finland. In 2023, the restaurant continued on the path already familiar from the previous years – the number of different beers sold increased again.

"We have a permanent beer selection of ten taps, while changing beer grades are served from 11 taps. In 2023, the changing selection of taps reached as many as 731 different beers, in addition to we sold 610 different products from bottles or cans. After a fairly easy calculation, we see that last year we were able to enjoy 1341 different types of beer at Konttori. The growth compared to the previous year was about three hundred," says Antti Hannula, Director of Olutravintola Konttori.

Steady growth – sour beers and light thirst quenchers at the forefront

Changing draught beers are usually purchased in one to two barrels. Depending on the size of the barrel, a single beer type will last from a few days to a week. IPA maintained its position as the most popular style in the changing selection, as 399 different varieties featured in Konttori's taps.

"And then there are the challengers. Sour beers, which had already grown in popularity last year, were also successful now, as in 2023 we launched more than 150 different sour beers on tap alone. Our staff has paid attention to the fact that our 'sours' also appeal to those who are generally not into the taste of beer. Now many people visit just because of them," Hannula says. 

"Lager beers sold slightly more than in 2022, but the biggest sales growth was in 5.5% and lighter pale ales. We offered 90 different ones, compared to about fifty a year earlier. Perhaps the exceptionally sunny and warm summer affected the demand for these good thirst-quenchers," Hannula ponders.

Beer culture attracts enthusiasts

Olutravintola Konttori has established itself as a favourite among beer lovers. Last year, it was voted the best beer restaurant in its hometown Tampere. In the Untappd application, known in beer circles, the Konttori menu was viewed about 107,000 times last year. A total of 1899 users made 22,225 reviews of Konttori drinks on the app. The numbers are growing steadily from year to year, which indicates an increase in the number of beer enthusiasts.

"The statistics are fun to follow anyway. At the moment, Konttori has the most reviews of Finnish restaurants in the Untappd app, but we are constantly playfully competing with two restaurants in Helsinki for the loudest Untappd buzz in the country," Hannula laughs.
