Maria Murtomäki is VAMK’s new Administrative and Finance Director

VAMK’s new Administrative and Finance Director has diverse leadership experience from various administrative roles, including experience in educational reform, investments, ownership changes, and finance. In addition to administrative roles in vocational education, Maria Murtomäki has also spent a significant amount of time in teaching positions. Therefore, the world of education, even from the perspective of higher education, is already familiar to her.

"I am very honored by my appointment and look forward to starting my new job. VAMK is a significant partner and a compelling contributor to the attractiveness of the Vaasa region. It is wonderful to become a part of the competent staff and activities at VAMK," Murtomäki shares her sentiments.

Engagement and open dialogue supporting organisational culture

Vaasa is already familiar to Murtomäki from many years back. Originally from Kokkola, Murtomäki has been working in Vaasa for the past few years and is transitioning to her new role from the position of Deputy Principal at Vamia, where she was responsible for the operations of the Work Life and Business Services department. As a leader, she values the expertise of the staff and recognises the importance of the networks formed over the years. "I consider it essential to have a participatory and open dialogue supporting organisational culture and to collaborate," says Murtomäki.

According to Murtomäki, VAMK is being developed and directed towards the future by responding, among other things, to the competence needs of the working life. "The activities are characterised by entrepreneurship, outward orientation, internationality, and enabling new learning," Murtomäki specifies.

She is looking forward to February and stepping into the new role. “The new task is sure to be rewarding and diverse, where I get to work in a great work community,”, concludes Murtomäki."
