Research Council of Finland

Research Council of Finland’s scientific councils invested substantially in international research funding cooperation in 2023

Jaa

The largest single international co-funding by the scientific councils – around 1.36 million euros – was the ERA-NET funding for research on long-term ICT challenges.

The Research Council of Finland’s scientific councils co-fund international research projects with other national funding organisations, the European Union and NordForsk. The cooperation involves research programmes focusing on a wide variety of themes, where projects are required to include cooperation between researchers from two or three other participating countries.

Promoting international research cooperation is an important way to support high-quality, responsible and high-impact research and scientific renewal. The international co-funding provided by the Research Council is primarily intended for European and Nordic joint projects and, in the case of the United States, for NSF joint projects. However, EU-level networks often include countries outside the EU, which effectively expands the opportunities for researchers to cooperate.

The scientific councils’ total contribution to international funding cooperation also includes funding for researcher mobility based on bilateral agreements with countries and territories outside Europe, namely India, China and Taiwan, and Japan.

Research Council of Finland to open Proof of Concept call to promote utilisation of research results11.4.2024 13:23:28 EEST | Tiedote

The Research Council of Finland is continuing its annual funding call to promote the economic and societal utilisation of research results. The Proof of Concept funding scheme has been prepared through a pilot call last year and will be implemented using additional funding allocated by the Finnish Government for research and development. The utilisation idea must arise from research previously funded by the Research Council. This year, the call is open to principal investigators of Academy Projects whose funding period has ended or ends between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2024.
