Demand for fast connections continues to grow as services move online. DNA introduces 2-Gbps subscriptions to fixed broadband with DOCSIS and Ethernet technology, initially available to approximately 100,000 households. DNA subscriptions will offer speeds of up to 10 Gbps in the future.

Finnish data usage has grown significantly in recent years. Demand for reliable connections will continue to grow in the future as remote working, online gaming and video streaming become increasingly popular and traditional services move online. In spring 2024, DNA will become the first operator in Finland to launch 2-Gbps cable broadband subscriptions. The new subscriptions will become available in May 2024.

“The new 2-gigabit services will be available to over 100,000 homes across Finland. Starting in May, these fast connections will be broadly available in Kuopio, Pori, Tampere, Jyväskylä, Turku and Vaasa. The service area will expand gradually from there”, says DNA’s VP, Broadband Business Mikko Kannisto

Kannisto points out that fast Internet connections come into their own when handling large amounts of data.

“With a 2-gigabit connection, you can easily stream several 4K or even 8K videos simultaneously without buffering or drops in quality”, he explains.

“In fact, studies show that slow connections are among Finns’ leading frustrations when it comes to networks. As a rule of thumb, a faster Internet connection is worth considering if members of your household regularly play games or stream video, or if more than one person is working remotely at the same time”, Kannisto explains.

Connection speeds of up to 10 Gbps are possible

DNA has a long history of developing and implementing DOCSIS technology. The company’s position as a market leader is no coincidence; it is a result of continuous development efforts.

“In the early 2000s, we made the bold choice of leaning on DOCSIS technology instead of the telephone network in our broadband service development, and that has enabled us to offer connections to individual apartments at speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second, even in old buildings, without the need to carry out renovations to install a new internal network”, Kannisto says.

The majority of DNA’s fixed-network services are delivered to homes using fibre-optic or cable networks. DNA’s DOCSIS broadband services are primarily based on routing fibre-optic cables all the way to the customer’s building.  DOCSIS technology already allows for connection speeds of up to 2 Gbps and, in the future, will enable even faster connections in existing internal networks. In these cases, apartments are connected to cable broadband using the building’s existing internal network. This allows fast connections throughout buildings without the need for major internal network overhauls. In the future, DOCSIS technology will enable speeds of up to 10 Gbps.

Smartphone use is declining among small children – but limiting the use is not enough20.5.2026 09:15:00 EEST | Press release

DNA is consistently developing children’s digital safety skills together with its partner Protect Children Association, which has been organizing digital safety workshops for young schoolchildren for several years. This spring, the company also distributed digital skills exercise booklets to more than 230,000 Finnish homes. Although children are starting to use smartphones later than before, they still face major risks online – which makes digital safety skills more important than ever. The topic is particularly relevant right now, as school summer holidays begin before many parents start their own vacations. In June, many children spend long periods at home and online without adult supervision, which increases the risk of encountering harmful content or inappropriate contact.
