Spring Aurora concert series promises classics and experimental music
The spring season of the concert series that has moved from WAM to the Turku Music Festival is now announced. There are core works of classical music, but also more experimental repertoire. The spring programme is curated by composer Lauri Mäntysaari. All concerts are free of charge and take place in the main hall of Art House Turku.

The spring season opens in January with soprano Annukka Kuivisto, violist Harri Sippel and pianist Jaana Luuppala. The concert programme features gems of romantic music that will speak to you with the beauty of their melodies and the intensity of their expression. The concert includes works by Brahms, Bridge, Saint-Saëns and Loeffler.
In February, the history of music comes to life and enchants its listeners with the accompaniment of pianist Risto Lauriala. The programme takes concert-goers from 17th-century Baroque to the Romantic atmosphere of the 19th century.
In March, the audience will be able to judge whether artificial intelligence can beat Sibelius. The chamber music association Artsoppa has used AI to create a "fake Sibelius", which they will play alongside the real Sibelius. During the evening, listeners will be challenged to challenge their ears and minds: can you tell the difference between a real Sibelius tune and one created by artificial intelligence?
In April, cellist Sirja Nironen and accordionist Janne Valkeajoki will be guests in the main hall of Art House Turku. The spring season will end with a concert in May, which will be published early in the new year.
Jussi Merikanto, who took over as Managing Director of the Turku Music Festival in October, is delighted with the reception of the concert series. "The autumn Aurora concerts have clearly found their audience. After a little initial excitement, we dare say that the Tuesday concert series has found a permanent new home in Art House Turku. It is important to us that, in addition to our other activities, we are able to offer regular, high-quality musical content that is open to all. The Aurora series has received positive feedback during the autumn, not only for its high quality, but also for its diversity. The 4th Line horn quartet concert that closed the autumn season was a fine addition to the city’s cultural calendar."
The move of the concert series to Art House Turku has opened up a wide range of opportunities for collaboration. "The cooperation with Cafe Elephanten, which operates in Art House Turku, has been successful, and concert-goers have learned to find their way to the coffee bar well before the concert", Merikanto continues. Cafe Elephanten's coffee point serves concert-goers in the concert hall one hour before the concert and during the intermission.
In the spring, the main concert hall of the House of Arts comes into its own when art exhibitions are held in parallel with the concerts. CONTINUE HERE.
