Some units from the Surgical Hospital are moving to Meilahti: Emergency Clinic for Ear, Nose, and Throat Diseases will become a part of Meilahti Emergency Department

The ear, nose, and throat diseases emergency clinic, urgent care during office hours, ward, and tumor outpatient clinic are moving from the Surgical Hospital to the Meilahti hospital campus. The units begin operating in the new location on February 4, 2025.

Emergency Clinic for Ear, Nose, and Throat Diseases will transfer to Meilahti Emergency Department

The Emergency Clinic for Ear, Nose, and Throat Diseases will become a part of the Meilahti Emergency Department. Access to Meilahti Emergency Department is via the Paciuksenkatu entrance to Bridge Hospital (Paciuksenkatu 3). In future, patients under the age of 16 in need of urgent care are treated at the emergency department of New Children's Hospital. Operation starts in the new premises on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 8 a.m.

An emergency referral from a doctor is required for treatment at the unit. If the patient does not have a referral or a previous treatment relationship with ear, nose, and throat diseases, we recommend calling the Medical Helpline at 116117. In an emergency, always call 112.

Units moving to Haartman Hospital

The ear, nose, and throat diseases units moving to the entrance floor of Haartman Hospital are the outpatient clinic that treats tumor patients, and the unit providing urgent care during office hours, where patients arrive with an emergency referral from Meilahti Emergency Department or by separate arrangement.

Haartman Hospital is located at the address Haartmaninkatu 4, in building number 12.

Units moving to Meilahti Bridge Hospital

The Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases Ward K6 will merge with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Ward S7A on the 5th floor of Meilahti Bridge Hospital. The ward’s new name is Head and Neck Surgery Ward S5B. Oral and maxillofacial surgery begins operating in the new premises on Monday, February 3, 2025. The ward's other activities begin on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

Meilahti Bridge Hospital is located at the address Haartmaninkatu 4, in building number 4. Access to the hospital is via the main entrance to the Meilahti Hospitals.

Den finländska studien FIMPACT (Finnish Subacromial Impingement Arthroscopy Controlled Trial) har i en tioårsuppföljning visat att operationen inte ger någon fördel jämfört med andra behandlingsformer. Den axeldekompressionsoperation som länge använts vid behandling av axelsmärta minskar enligt studien inte smärtan och förbättrar inte heller funktionsförmågan eller livskvaliteten jämfört med placebokirurgi eller intensifierad fysioterapi.

The Finnish FIMPACT trial (Finnish Subacromial Impingement Arthroscopy Controlled Trial) has in a follow-up of ten years shown that surgery does not offer any benefit compared to other forms of treatment. According to studies, decompression surgery (arthroscopic subacromial decompression, ASD), which has long been used in the treatment of shoulder pain, does not reduce the pain or improve functional capacity or the quality of life when compared to placebo surgery or intensified physiotherapy.

HUS-sammanslutningens styrelse behandlar på sitt möte den 15 december verksamheten och ekonomin i januari–oktober 2025 samt den sista årsprognosen för 2025. Sammanslutningens styrelse ska också behandla HUS långsiktig plan för fastigheter och verksamhetslokaler samt utvecklingen av Kirurgiska sjukhusets fastighet. Föredragningslistan för mötet finns här. Sammanslutningens styrelse leder HUS verksamhet, förvaltning och ekonomi. Sammanslutningens styrelse har 17 ledamöter och av dem är två företrädare för Helsingfors universitet. Sammanslutningens styrelse sammanträder cirka en gång per månad. HUSin yhtymähallitus käsittelee 15.12. kokouksessaan tammi−lokakuun 2025 toimintaa ja taloutta sekä vuoden 2025 viimeistä vuosiennustetta.
