Customers who log in to OmaKela will be prompted to enable Suomi.fi messages

Share

As from 12 May 2025, customers who log in to OmaKela will be prompted to enable Suomi.fi messages. The prompt is shown to persons over 18 who have not yet enabled Suomi.fi messages. Customers who have opted out of paper mail from Kela will still receive decisions and letters from Kela in OmaKela. Suomi.fi messages are a service provided by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency and the service is safe to use.

When persons over 18 log in to OmaKela or some other e-service of public authorities as from 12 May, they will be prompted to enable Suomi.fi messages. Suomi.fi messages can be enabled right away in connection with the identification. You can also ignore the prompt and continue to handle your affairs as usual. Customers who have not enabled Suomi.fi messages will be prompted each time they log in.

Enabling Suomi.fi messages is part of the project Digital First, whereby Finland is gradually switching to digital communication between customers and public authorities. The aim of the project Digital First is that as many citizens as possible henceforth get decisions and other documents from public authorities primarily in electronic form. More and more public authorities have started using Suomi.fi messages and started sending messages to their customers that way. Increased electronic communications save a considerable amount of public funds.

Kela will start using Suomi.fi messages in June – opt out of paper mail from Kela in OmaKela

Kela will start sending alerts as Suomi.fi messages in June. Customers who have enabled Suomi.fi messages will get alerts for new decisions and letters from Kela in the Suomi.fi messages if they have opted out of paper mail from Kela. You can opt out of paper mail by informing Kela about it in OmaKela.

The prompt to enable Suomi.fi messages only concerns the handling of personal matters

Kela’s employer customers and partner organisations will also get a prompt to enable personal Suomi.fi messages as from 12 May when they log in to Kela’s e-services for employers and partner organisations.

However, the Suomi.fi messages are only intended for private individuals and the handling of their personal matters. Suomi.fi messages will not come into use for handling matters for instance between Kela and the wellbeing services counties, employment services, pharmacies and service providers. Suomi.fi messages will also not come into use in the communication between Kela and employers. Despite this, the user will be prompted to enable Suomi.fi messages also when the user is logging in to Kela’s e-services for partner organisations using Suomi.fi identification. When a person acting on behalf of the employer or a partner organisation enables Suomi.fi messages, they are only used in the person’s personal matters.
