The competition highlights the successes of worksites and encourages them to surpass themselves in preventing the inconveniences caused by roadworks.

The winner of the competition will be selected by a jury that visit pre-selected worksites weekly and evaluate the successes of the sites qualitatively. The jury focuses on good practices of the sites in reducing inconvenience to city residents. The worksites receive reports and tips on creative solutions from the jury's visits that can minimize or even eliminate the inconvenience caused by roadworks. The jury will tour the worksites all summer, monitoring their activities.

During the competition, the worksites will have the opportunity to improve their operations based on the feedback received from the jury. In October, the winner will be chosen based on excellent site arrangements, guidance, and temporary routes that are first-class and functional for all street users. Through the competition, we hope that contractor organizations will be inspired to communicate about the competition and that all worksites will enhance the positive experiences of city residents.

The assessment jury includes INFRA, Property owners and developers Rakli, the Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities, the Finnish Association of the Blind, the Helsinki Chamber of Commerce, HSL, the Finnish Cyclists’ Federation, and HSY, as well as the competition organizers, the City of Helsinki and the City of Espoo. The work of the jury is coordinated by Ramboll Finland.

How the competition progresses:

  • Competition period from May 27th to October 2nd.
  • The assessment jury will monitor the performance of the participating worksites over the summer, considering factors such as pedestrian and bicycle movement near the site, accessibility, cleanliness, safety, site quality, and the overall impression. Assessments will be made during site visits throughout the summer.
  • The competition winner and honorary mentions will be announced on October 2nd.
