Adven and IFF expand strategic partnership with a new state-of-the-art evaporation plant

Adven and IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances) are deepening their long-standing partnership with the construction of a new, cutting-edge evaporation plant in Kotka Finland. The plant - the fifth joint project between the parties - marks a major step forward in industrial electrification and energy-efficient processing in the Finnish manufacturing sector.

The plant is designed to handle material streams needed in manufacturing fast moving consumer goods - key ingredients found in food items.

The Kotka plant will significantly strengthen Adven’s “Evaporation as a Service” concept. This innovative service model, successfully developed and implemented across Finland for over a decade, offers sustainable, outsourced evaporation solutions tailored to industrial needs with delivery guaranties and no capex-expenditure from the client.

At the heart of the project is a commitment to sustainability. The plant will utilize advanced Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) technology, completely eliminating the need for steam in the evaporation process.

“This transition to fully electric operation is expected to improve the energy efficiency of the evaporation process by approximately 75% - an impressive leap in energy-efficiency that aligns with the broader push for industrial decarbonization”, points out Antti Tuominen, Head of Processing Solutions at Adven.

The project execution began in May 2025, following the recent building permit approval by the City of Kotka. The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026.

“This project continues a long and successful collaboration with IFF. It stands as a powerful example of Finnish industrial innovation and partnership - and a hopeful signal of progress for the Kymenlaakso region, which has been significantly affected by industrial transformation. This new evaporation plant exemplifies what modern, sustainable industry should be: technologically advanced, energy-efficient, and deeply connected to the communities it serves”, says Leo Toivonen, Director Sales Project Development, Finland at Adven.

The project has been granted NextGenerationEU funding.
