Merus Power signs an agreement worth millions for the modernization of a compensator in Finland

Merus Power has signed an agreement with Aurora Infrastructure Oy for the modernization of a static var compensator. Typically, the value of such orders is around 2 million euros. This is already the second modernization of a compensator in cooperation with Aurora Infrastructure. The installations will take place in autumn 2026. The goal of Aurora, an industrial electricity network partner, is to offer a functional and reliable power network to its customers and at the same time reduce its customers' carbon footprint by improving power quality and energy efficiency. 

A new, modernized var compensator will be installed in the medium-voltage network of a steel plant to improve power quality. The purpose of the compensator is to stabilize the voltage in the network and reduce disturbances and reactive power in the electricity network. At the same time, the plant's energy efficiency can be improved and the need for premature maintenance in its systems can be reduced. 

The steel industry uses a lot of energy, and improving power quality and investing in energy efficiency can reduce the amount of electrical energy used in the manufacture of products. Steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world, and it can be recycled almost indefinitely without losing its properties.
