Scanfil rekisteröitiin kaupparekisteriin 4. kesäkuuta 1976, kun Jorma J. Takanen aloitti yritystoiminnan veljensä autotallissa Sievissä, Pohjois-Pohjanmaalla. Yhtiön nimi viittaa sen ensimmäisiin tuotteisiin, suodattimiin, mutta liiketoiminta löysi pian uuden suunnan mekaniikassa ja elektroniikassa. 1990-luku oli Scanfilille voimakkaan kasvun aikaa. Liikevaihto kasvoi viidestä miljoonasta eurosta 220 miljoonaan euroon. Yhtiö listautui Helsingin pörssiin vuonna 2002 ja kansainvälistyi laajentamalla toimintaansa Unkariin, Kiinaan ja Viroon. Scanfil was registered with the Finnish Trade Register on 4 June 1976 when Jorma J. Takanen started operations in his brother's garage in Sievi, Finland. The name of the company refers to its first products, filters, but the business soon found a new direction in mechanics and electronics. The 1990s were a time of strong growth for Scanfil. Turnover increased from EUR 5 million to EUR 220 million. The company was listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange in 2002 and became international by expanding its operations to Hungary, China and Estonia.
