DNA unveils ambitious 120-million-euro investment in fiber – comprehensive upgrades for all customer housing associations by 2028

DNA is launching a comprehensive fiber investment plan that will bring fiber optics to all existing customer housing companies by 2028. This decision represents a significant investment in the development of Finnish telecommunications infrastructure. DNA estimates that the investment level exceeds EUR 120 million over the next three years. This decision reflects DNA's long-term and consistent investment strategy in fiber networks.

"This is one of the largest individual fiber infrastructure decisions in DNA's history. We are not just building a network; we are providing Finnish homes with long-lasting competitiveness and readiness for future connectivity needs," says Mikko Kannisto, VP, Broadband and Housing Company Business at DNA.
Unlike many industry projects, DNA’s fiber rollout is fully financed internally, without the involvement of external capital investors. The financing will occur internally within the group, reflecting the strong confidence of DNA's owner, the Norwegian Telenor Group, in the Finnish market and DNA's position at the forefront of industry development.
"We believe in the growth of telecommunications in Finland and that capacity and quality will be increasingly demanded, whether in homes, remote work, or digital entertainment. This investment is a response to that need," summarizes Kannisto.
High speeds and future readiness already in place
In the fall of 2025, DNA will launch a new indoor fiber network solution for housing companies, enabling even higher fiber speeds directly to apartments. Together with current technology, this solution will significantly increase maximum network speeds and create readiness for future needs.
"As technology evolves, all of DNA's fixed broadband customers will have access to connections that meet the EU's gigabit target (Gigabit 2030) in the future, even without an indoor network renovation. There is no rush regarding indoor fiber, but we want to offer our customers the opportunity to easily upgrade to even faster connections. However, indoor networks should be updated during other renovations or major improvements. Our solutions are ready for speeds of up to tens of gigabits and compatible with future technology upgrades," says Kannisto.
DNA has been making consistent investments in the development of fixed networks for years – and it shows: the majority of DNA's fiber and cable network customers can already access speeds of up to 2 Gbit/s today if they choose to. This builds a strong foundation for even faster connections in the future.
“This significant fiber investment, which will provide fiber optics to all of DNA's customer housing associations, ensures that we meet our customers' needs in the future. Our goal is to make our customers' lives easier – and that is why these solutions are being offered at the right time and in the right way, without haste,” says Kannisto.
Long-term work behind the scenes
In 2021, DNA became the market leader in fixed broadband in terms of customer numbers. Since then, the gap to the nearest competitors has widened even further. DNA has been increasing its market share in fixed broadband connections for over a decade. Success has always been based on high-quality network connections and straightforward customer interactions at all stages.
"DNA has already invested hundreds of millions of euros in fiber-based internet connections. For us, this has not been a short-term stunt, but a long-term and determined strategy. We are building a network that stands the test of time and grows with our customers," describes Kannisto.
At the same time, DNA wants to offer its customers the freedom to choose options beyond fixed internet connections. The best broadband choice depends primarily on usage needs. When maximum speed and stability are required, fiber and modern cable broadband are excellent choices. When speed, ease of installation, and mobility are prioritized, 5G-based solutions provide the best alternative.
For example, with DNA Netti Takuukaistalla connection, customers can enjoy a guaranteed speed regardless of potential mobile network congestion. All technologies are evolving – and DNA is developing them in parallel. While the company is heavily investing in fiber, it is not reliant on a single connection method. The goal is to build gigabit-class solutions across all technologies that meet DNA’s customers' everyday and work needs – now and in the future.
