Share

In a landmark partnership, Kempower has joined forces with Paterson Simons to bring cutting-edge DC fast charging technology to West and Central Africa, marking Kempower’s first official sales and service representation on the continent. The first major achievement of the partnership is the supply and installation of a Kempower DC charging system by Paterson Simons at Meridian Port Services (MPS) in Tema, Ghana, to power the site’s port equipment. The project featured six 300 kW CCS2 Kempower Double Satellites, built for tough conditions, and an integrated solution for cooling and remote operations. This optimized system supports efficient, safe, and scalable electrification for the port, reducing long-term costs.

Ghana, Africa – August 12, 2025 – In a landmark partnership, Kempower has joined forces with Paterson Simons to bring cutting-edge DC fast charging technology to West and Central Africa, marking Kempower’s first official sales and service representation on the continent.

Across Africa, industries are beginning to embrace electrification as a path toward sustainability, cost efficiency, and energy independence.  While still in its early stages compared to Europe or Asia, the e-mobility transition is being accelerated in Africa by global climate commitments, rising fuel costs, and the need for resilient energy solutions. In regions like West and Central Africa, where power infrastructure and environmental challenges can be complex, smart and flexible solutions — like Kempower’s modular DC charging technology — are essential.

Kempower and Paterson Simons’ partnership fills a critical gap in Africa’s electrification development by providing reliable, high-quality charging infrastructure and local support for ports, mines, and industrial hubs transitioning moving to electric equipment.

Paterson Simons, a well-established provider of heavy lifting equipment and technical services across Africa, now represents Kempower as its official sales and aftermarket partner in West and Central Africa. The partnership combines Kempower’s advanced charging technology with Paterson Simons’ deep local expertise and customer support footprint — a powerful blend aimed at supporting Africa’s transition to clean, efficient infrastructure.

“At Paterson Simons, we’re not afraid of new technology — we’re here to guide our customers through it,” says James Savoy, Group Technical Director at Paterson Simons. “Kempower’s innovation and reliability align with our values, and together we’re not just delivering chargers — we’re delivering confidence.”

Paterson Simons’ team is certified by the Kempower Academy in Finland, enabling them to install, maintain, and provide on-site technical support, spare parts, and training. As a result, clients experience faster access to charging solutions and parts, custom options suited for African environments, reliable technical assistance, and minimal downtime for essential equipment.

“This is a significant milestone in our mission to support Africa’s transition to cleaner, more efficient technologies,” says James Savoy. “Together, we’re empowering industries across West and Central Africa with future-ready infrastructure.”

“The addition of Paterson Simons to our partner network reinforces Kempower’s presence in the heavy-duty segment and strengthens our commitment to supporting electrification projects in new markets. This partnership reflects our ambition to grow in new regions and industries where there is a clear need for efficient, state-of-the-art charging solutions”, says Carlo Cecchi, Director, New Markets, at Kempower.
