Helsinki’s cardiology services will transfer to HUS in early September

Share

Cardiology services, meaning the examination and treatment of heart diseases, currently provided by the Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic of the City of Helsinki will become part of HUS as of September 1, 2025. As part of this transition, Helsinki’s cardiology services, personnel, and equipment will be transferred to HUS.

The purpose of this transfer, which will be carried out as a business transfer, is to centralize the responsibility for organizing cardiology services in Helsinki entirely under HUS, and to improve the availability and efficiency of cardiology services.

After the business transfer, HUS will serve all cardiological patients in Helsinki, and services will be organized in the same way throughout the Uusimaa region.

Services will continue in Postitalo

As part of the transfer, cardiology services will move from the Malmi Hospital’s Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic to Postitalo in central Helsinki, where HUS already has a cardiology outpatient clinic.

A physician's referral is required for treatment at the Cardiology Outpatient Clinic. The clinic treats patients with coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, cardiac insufficiency, and other disorders and diseases of the heart and circulatory system. Emergency care for urgent heart conditions is not provided at this clinic.

Staff will transfer to HUS as existing employees

The personnel currently employed by the City of Helsinki will transfer to HUS as existing employees, and their employment contracts will remain unchanged

The Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic operated by Helsinki will continue normally in Herttoniemi and Malmi for its other services. The Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic provides appointments and examinations in the specialties of gastroenterology and general internal medicine. It also performs retinal imaging for diabetic patients.
