Report: DNA’s customers continue to lead Europe in mobile data usage – data volumes have continued to grow strongly
According to the latest report* by research company Tefficient, DNA’s customers used the most mobile data per subscription in Europe during the first half of 2025, ranking among the top globally as well. From January to June 2025, DNA customers used an average of 58.9 gigabytes of mobile data per month per subscription, earning DNA the third place worldwide in the comparison.

“Finns are known for their heavy data usage, and DNA’s network is built to meet this demand. We’re proud that our customers can use mobile data reliably whenever they need it,” says Jarkko Laari, Vice President, Networks, at DNA.
DNA has consistently ranked among the top three in Tefficient’s comparison for several years, thanks to its high data volumes. Laari attributes this to DNA’s strong investments in network coverage, customer-oriented subscription models, and transparent pricing. DNA’s 5G network covers nearly the entire population of Finland, enabling fast and reliable connectivity nationwide. A unique feature in Finland is unlimited data packages. DNA’s speed-based subscriptions allow customers to use mobile data without worrying about exceeding limits, supporting a smooth digital everyday life and meeting modern needs.
In the first half of 2025, DNA customers used an average of 58.9 gigabytes of mobile data per month. A year earlier, the figure was 55.4 gigabytes. This represents a year-on-year increase of approximately 6%. Over three years, the growth has reached 35%, as the average usage in January–June 2022 was 43.6 gigabytes.
“The rapid growth in data volumes over the past three years shows that the nationwide 5G network upgrade completed by the end of last year was indeed necessary. DNA began offering its first 5G services already in late 2019, and since then, the rate of mobile data usage growth has been remarkable. In a 5G network, data transfers at higher speeds and with lower latency compared to previous technologies. The modern network ensures that, on average, the best possible technology is available for various connectivity needs,” Laari commented.
The role of mobile devices in work and leisure continues to grow
Ways of working have changed: meetings and work tasks are increasingly handled via mobile devices, regardless of time or location. This increases the need for high-quality and secure mobile data.
“More and more tasks are conveniently handled on mobile devices, whether for work or leisure. We believe this trend will continue, and data usage will keep growing in the future,” says Laari.
“Especially in the corporate segment, the growth in data usage has been significant. DNA’s corporate subscriptions have seen over 20 percent annual growth in data usage, relatively outpacing consumer subscriptions. Mobile data is becoming an increasingly common and certainly safer option than open Wi-Fi networks, both in Finland and abroad,” says Mari Eklund, Vice President of Communication Solutions for DNA’s corporate business.
Excessive device use also raises concerns for wellbeing and the environment
All data usage consumes energy, and fossil-based energy production accelerates climate change. All electricity directly purchased by DNA is generated from Finnish wind power, and the company also seeks to influence the origin of electricity used in rented properties. On the other hand, remote work enabled by strong network connections can reduce emissions from commuting.
“While mobile data usage continues to grow, it’s important to take seriously the concerns about the excessive use of smart devices and its impact on us and our environment. Growth in data usage is not an end in itself. What matters is that we use data in ways that support both environmental and human well-being,” Laari reminds.

Do you know what will happen to your social media accounts or cryptocurrencies after your death? An expert advises what everyone should do just in case19.12.2025 08:30:00 EET | Press release
When logging into digital services, it may not occur to you what will happen to your accounts after your death. It should, as we are leaving an increasingly larger digital footprint behind us. A digital testament or digital will informs the estate administrators about which services have been used and what you wish to be done with them after your death. An expert from DNA explains why everyone should create a summary of the digital services they use.
Projektiin investoidaan yhteensä 5,4 miljoonaa euroa, josta 1,62 miljoonaa katetaan EU-rahoituksen tuella.
