Finnish Immigration Service resumes issuing asylum decisions for Syrians

The Finnish Immigration Service examines all asylum applications individually. The most recent country of origin information is always taken into account when asylum applications are being processed. The decision-making regarding asylum applications from Syrians has recently been resumed in some other EU countries as well.

“As part of our decision-making, we have monitored the developments in the security situation in Syria both on national and international level. On the basis of country information, the security situation has stabilised to a level that allows us to resume the decision-making that was paused following the changes in the country information,” says Antti Lehtinen, Director of Department for International Protection.

At the moment, the Finnish Immigration Service has 320 pending asylum applications submitted by Syrians. The need for international protection is always assessed individually, taking into account the country information gathered both internationally and nationally.
