Tree planting on Mannerheimintie will commence on Tuesday 30 September and continue for approximately three weeks. The associated traffic arrangements may cause congestion in the driving lanes of Mannerheimintie. The driving lane will be closed in approximately 50–100-metre sections at the place where the trees are planted.

The planting is provisionally planned to start on Mannerheimintie near Töölö Sports Hall and proceed northwards. The planting work may also require the temporary closure of cycling and pedestrian paths.

The planting will be carried out on weekdays between 7:00 and 16:00. At other times, the lanes of Mannerheimintie will be usable as normal.

More than 60 trees to be planted on Mannerheimintie and side streets

The number of street trees to be planted on Mannerheimintie and its side streets is just over 60. The side streets on which trees will be planted are Toivonkatu, Savilankatu and Ruusankatu. In addition to trees, vines will be planted on the pillars of Sallinkatu and Mannerheimintie, and shrubs and trees will be planted in Helsingin puistikko.

The trees will be planted in the autumn, when the weather cools down. The saplings will only be transported to the site once they have entered winter dormancy.

The trees to be planted on Mannerheimintie and Toivonkatu are lime trees, while the new trees on Ruusankatu and Savilankatu are columnar alders.

Plants also being added to the new Humalistonkuja street plaza

In October, the City will also be planting low ground cover shrubs, perennials and grasses, low conifers, trunked shrubs, small trees and columnar junipers in the new Humalistonkuja plaza.

In addition to these, three lime trees will be planted on the street side of the plaza. The work on the new plaza will be primarily completed during the autumn. HOK-Elanto will build electric car charging stations on the edge of the plaza, which will be completed later.

Completion of the renovation to be celebrated on 1 October

The opening ceremony of the renovated Mannerheimintie will be held in Helsingin puistikko, south of Töölö Sports Hall, on Wednesday 1 October, starting at 17:00. The ceremony will feature speeches, live music, coffee and sweet pastries.
