Posti transports Kempower's factory shipments electric in Finland

Kempower’s local logistics partner Posti has taken into use a new high-power electric truck for Kempower's internal logistics in Lahti, Finland. The electric truck transports Kempower charging satellites, power cabinets, and modules from three factories to the finished goods warehouse, as well as components from local subcontractors to the factories. 

"We have further strengthened our cooperation with Posti by agreeing that our local transport will be powered by electricity to reduce emissions. This supports Kempower's long-term carbon neutrality goal. Another benefit is that we can closely monitor the charging of the new high-power electric truck using data generated by Kempower's ChargEye charging management system," says Heidi Koljonen, Kempower's Production and Logistics Director. 

The electric truck produces no carbon dioxide emissions during the transport. Taking into account emissions from electricity generation and transmission, its total annual emissions in regional transport are at least 66% lower than those of a diesel truck. (1 

Kempower's goal is to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2035. 

"At Posti, it is important for us to continuously develop our processes, and the transition to fossil-free logistics is one of our key objectives. High-power electric trucks are still rare in Finland. Through our collaboration, Kempower will obtain important data for developing its own business," says Pekka Paavilainen, Account Management Director at Posti. 

Posti's goal is to reduce its own emissions and those of its value chain to zero by 2040. Posti also aims to ensure that by 2030, the company and its partners will only use fossil-free energy and that only fossil-free energy will be used in its properties. 

An important milestone towards Posti's fossil-free logistics is a transportation plan to fossil-free operations by 2030 published in 2022 for its own fleet of vehicles. The roadmap to fossil-free transport includes the deployment of new electric and biogas fleet each year, and a piloting of hydrogen vehicles before 2030. 

The new vehicle in Kempower’s internal logistics, Mercedes.Benz eActros 600 electric truck, has three battery packs with a total capacity of 621 kWh. The battery capacity, combined with the electric axle solution developed by Mercedes-Benz Trucks, enables a range of over 500 kilometers on a single charge. This is sufficient for 4.5 hours of driving time, which the driver can drive before the statutory break.
