The City of Espoo will treat all residents to the Independence Day Gala Concert on Saturday, 6 December 2025, at Espoo Metro Areena. The wildly popular Suvi Teräsniska and electrifying Yasmine Yamajako, known for performing in musicals, will be taking the stage. You can watch the concert live in Yle Areena. The Polytech Orchestra conducted by Vuokko Lahtinen will be providing the accompaniment. The Tapiola upper secondary school chamber choir will also be performing.

The concert, held for the 26th time at Metro Areena, is known for its unique way of combining classical music and lighter pop music into a striking experience bringing together music lovers across generations. This beloved Independence Day tradition brings residents of Espoo together to celebrate Finland's independence.

Over the past 26 years, Espoo and its residents have changed, which is why the Independence Day celebration will also be renewed in 2026. Going forward, the solemn concert will be held in a new venue with a renewed programme, yet honouring traditions.

Concert to be streamed live in Yle’s ‘Suorana suomalaisilta’ service
The accessibility and availability of the event to all residents will be improved by streaming the concert live to home viewers from Yle's new ‘Suorana suomalaisilta’ service. This will make it easier for different communities, such as residents of care homes and Finnish people living abroad, to enjoy the celebration.

2025 Espoo medals to be presented during the event
Medals in recognition of work for the benefit of Espoo have been presented to recipients since 1972, and there are a total of 500 recipients of the medals thus far. The Espoo medal was designed by sculptor and medal artist Kauko Räsänen. Räsänen, a former resident of Soukka, has also designed the doors and reliefs of the Espoo City Council house.

Free tickets given out starting from Thursday 6 November 2025
Tickets to the event are available at no cost whatsoever in the Ticketmaster web shop and various distribution points, such as Espoo Info Service Points all over the city as well as the information desks at the Ainoa and Sello shopping centres.
