Kempower strengthens its cybersecurity leadership in EV charging with ISO 27001 renewal and ethical hacking initiative
DC fast charging manufacturer Kempower has reinforced its commitment to cybersecurity with the renewal of its ISO 27001 certification. The certification, issued by KPMG, indicates that Kempower’s physical chargers, ChargEye charging management software and other backend systems are compliant with strict cybersecurity and data management standards. Kempower uses Amazon AWS platform’s cloud services for running ChargEye services for its customers.

- Kempower has received ISO 27001 certification for the second year in a row, a reputable industry accolade which demonstrates high standards for cybersecurity and data security
- Cybersecurity is vital for the EV charging industry as robust systems prevent charger downtime and breaches of confidential data
- Kempower will hold its second Hack Day in November 2025 to test the safety of its own chargers and cloud systems with ethical hackers.
Kempower was initially granted the certification in 2024, and recently underwent an official audit of its information security management system (ISMS) to secure it for a second consecutive year. The certification recognizes the company’s high standards of cybersecurity, data protection, risk management and staff training.
EV charging is becoming an increasingly critical part of global infrastructure as more drivers and fleets transition to electric. Cybersecurity plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability of charging infrastructure, as well as the protection of confidential data, since breaches by hackers can result in downtime of hardware.
As a result of its stringent protocols, Kempower’s charging infrastructure and cloud-based charging station management system, ChargEye, have an uptime of more than 99% and have not suffered any known cybersecurity incidents. The ChargEye platform is also backed by 24/7 monitoring and a clear incident response protocol, meaning teams are ready to act in the event of a breach.
Bhasker Kaushal, CEO of Kempower said: “We’re proud to once again be recognized for our best-in-class data security practices with ISO 27001 recertification. Cybersecurity is a crucial part of our processes across all of our products, services and operations, right from the initial manufacturing stage. Our robust policies underpin the safety and reliability of our systems, something we take incredibly seriously.”
As an additional cybersecurity initiative, Kempower will also be holding its second Hack Day at the end of the month, an event it held for the first time in 2023 to uncover areas in the company’s cybersecurity.
Organized by Mint Security in partnership with Cloud2, GoFore, Loihde, DNA and AWS, the Hack Day will see more than 50 ethical hackers attempt to breach Kempower’s cybersecurity systems in a controlled environment. The vulnerabilities exposed during the Hack Day will then become the top priority for the next phase of work to strengthen the security of Kempower’s charging stations and cloud systems.
Tero Vuori, Head of Cybersecurity at Kempower, said: “EV charging is a fast-growing and still relatively new industry, so research and innovation is invaluable for pre-empting potential vulnerabilities before they can be exploited. The Hack Day is our way of going a step further than the ISO 27001 and proactively finding new ways to continuously improve our cybersecurity systems. I look forward to seeing what valuable insights we take away this year.”
“In an emerging industry, these initiatives play a central role in building trust with customers, partners and EV drivers around the world. We handle large volumes of data across our global markets so it’s important that we comply with the highest international standards, and we will continue to prioritize this going forward.”
