Olutravintola Konttori steps up the pace again – a record 926 different beers on tap in 2025

The annual statistics from Olutravintola Konttori in Tampere, Finland confirm what the team has been sensing as a constant keg carousel at the rotating taps: 2025 was a year of growth – and of lager – at Konttori.

“In 2025 we poured 926 different beers through our rotating taps, 114 of which were various lagers,” reports Konttori’s manager and co-owner Antti Hannula.

Olutravintola Konttori’s extensive line-up of rotating taps featured more lagers than never before, with their number increasing by 37% in 2025. Konttori closely monitors popularity changes in beer styles and keeps detailed statistics on how Finnish beer culture is evolving.

In total, 118 more different beers flowed through the taps than in 2024. The number of rotating lagers rose by 37%, stouts and porters by 43%, and IPA and pale ale beers by 13%, while sours and other styles remained at the previous year’s levels.

Draft beers are the primary focus of interest for Konttori’s customers. When it comes to bottles and cans, the bar chose to emphasise quality over quantity, but even there the selection reached around 400 different beers.

Premium lagers on the rise – stout demand a surprise

Hannula, who follows the annual statistics with keen interest, has long anticipated a rise in lager’s popularity. “The uptick in lager that I predicted at the start of last year did come true; it might not yet have been the long awaited ‘year of lager’, but the trend was clearly heading in that direction,” he says.

According to Hannula, the most notable shift is that consumption is moving more and more towards premium lagers rather than overall lager sales simply growing. The strong increase in stout sales, on the other hand, came as something of a surprise.

“We have certainly offered more lighter stouts than before, not just strong imperial stouts. Perhaps the worldwide Guinness boom gave a boost for stout in general,” Hannula reflects when considering the reasons behind the marked growth in stout demand.

Statistics as a working tool

What began as Hannula’s personal interest in numbers has grown into a statistical practice that tracks how the popularity of different beer styles develops and highlights international trends as well. The figures also serve as a practical tool in a beer bar where the number of rotating taps increases year after year.

“Memory can lie, statistics do not. Beers move through our lines at such a pace that it is impossible to grasp the full picture without data,” Hannula notes. “We added yet another new tap late last autumn, which of course shows in the volumes as well – we now have 12 rotating taps,” he continues.

The statistics will continue to guide beer selection going forward, but Hannula emphasises that the offering itself also creates demand. A carefully curated range represents a broad spectrum of styles and keeps even regulars discovering something new and interesting every day.

“I want to maintain diversity in our beer lineup, and that requires a lot of planning and looking far into the future. Every tap has its own guideline and a carefully thought-out timetable,” Hannula explains.

Untappd data reveals the interest

Konttori’s up-to-date tap list is visible in the Untappd beer app, where the numbers reflect just how attractive the offering is. Enthusiasts travel from further afield in search of intriguing beers.

“Untappd data for 2025 shows that Konttori logged 27,762 beer ratings by around 2,300 different people, and our menu was viewed more than 120,000 times over the year,” Hannula sums up. Konttori is among the busiest Untappd venues in the world, thanks to its´ active customers.
