Espoo updates parking signs – some parking areas to be changed or removed

Share
The illustration shows traffic signs.
From now on, areas where parking is permitted are marked with the signs shown in the picture. The ‘E2 Parking lot’ sign is always used within a no-parking zone.

The new Road Traffic Act, which came into force in June 2020, brought changes to the marking of parking areas within no-parking zones. According to the act, parking areas within these zones can no longer be marked with prohibitory or restrictive signs, but instead with regulatory signs and road markings. The blue P sign (‘E2 Parking lot’) and white road markings are typically used in parking areas. In some cases, no-parking zones have been completely removed, so parking areas can be marked with a ‘C38 No parking’ sign and additional panels indicating time restrictions.

The City of Espoo has systematically checked its entire street network and, as a result of this process, clarified and improved the signs and markings in no-parking zones. Parking areas have been changed in line with the objectives of current legislation and city planning. In addition, street widths and visibility around driveways have been examined to ensure that the routes are safe and smooth for emergency, winter maintenance and waste collection vehicles as well as for residents. As a result of the changes, parking areas may be relocated, marked more clearly or removed. The aim is to ensure that parking in Espoo is clearer and safer for everyone. The new practice will also support the city’s parking control and reduce unclear situations.

The city will start making the changes in the street areas at the beginning of 2026. Street users are asked to pay particular attention to the parking signs that indicate permitted parking areas and restrictions. Click on the links below to find a map and a list of the streets affected.
