In early February, Salo will become a paradise for cold swimming and sauna enthusiasts when Ice Swimming Sprint – Avantoralli takes place on 7–8 February 2026. The event welcomes both first-timers and experienced winter swimmers to enjoy the combination of icy water and warm saunas across different parts of Salo.

Thirteen ice swimming locations will participate in the 2026 Avantoralli. Swimming spots include rivers, lakes, the sea, ponds, and springs. The Avantoralli map of ice swimming saunas has been compiled to help visitors plan their sauna route and transfers between locations.

“The saunas will be heated throughout Salo with extended opening hours. All you need to bring is a towel and a swimsuit. A hat and ice swimming shoes or wool socks are recommended,” says event coordinator Karolina Blom.

Ice Swimming Sprint encourages participants to get moving and visit several locations. Those who visit at least four ice swimming sauna locations will be entered into the Avantoralli raffle, and students who visit four saunas will receive a badge.

Public event at Salo Market Square on Saturday 7 February

On Saturday 7 February, from 12:00 to 16:00, Avantoralli will also be visible and felt at Salo Market Square, where a free public event will be held. The market square will feature saunas, hot tubs, cold pools, market vendors, entertainment, and ice swimming in the river.

According to Blom, Avantoralli is developing into a winter wellness weekend centered around cold-water swimming.

“Cold swimming has been proven to be a hobby that promotes health and well-being. In addition to sauna and swimming, other wellness events such as yoga and sound bowl relaxation will also be offered during the weekend,” Blom says.

However, Avantoralli remains primarily focused on cold swimming and the refreshment it brings.

“There’s always a first time. We encourage all Salo residents and visitors to come and try the combination of cold water and a warm sauna,” Blom adds.
