The Finnish Marine Industries Federation Finnboat celebrates its impressive 80-year history in 2026 as advocacy organisation of the Finnish boating industry. Finnboat has grown from a small post war association into an internationally respected industry federation whose members account for almost the entire domestic turnover of the sector and Finland’s boat exports.

Finnboat marks its 80th anniversary by publishing a comprehensive historical work on the development of the Finnish boating industry on the opening day of the Vene 26 Båt boat show.

Founded in 1946, Finnboat has brought together companies in the boating industry, promoted business operations and fair competition, and developed boating and boating safety in Finland. The power of cooperation has been at the core of Finnboat’s success – over the decades, numerous committed individuals have worked to advance the Finnish boating industry.

“In a small country, progress depends on working together. A strong sense of community and open sharing of best practices have been Finnboat’s strengths from the very beginning.” says CEO Jarkko Pajusalo.

Decades of Growth and Internationalisation

Finnboat’s history encompasses many stages, from post-war material shortages and reconstruction to the expansion of international exports, technological advances, and the strong structuring of the industry. Since the 1960s, Finnish boats have gained international recognition, and under Finnboat’s leadership, companies have opened doors to export markets, developed safety standards and built strong networks.

Over the decades, Finnboat has contributed to the industry legislation, promoted boating safety and responsibility and organised major events such as the Helsinki International Boat Show and the Uiva Flytande Boat-Afloat show.

Looking to the Future

Today, Finnboat represents around 270 member companies, covering almost the entire turnover and exports of the marine industry in Finland. Technological development continues, while environmental responsibility and international competition shape the future. Finnboat will continue its role as an industry representative, a knowledge hub, and a catalyst for collaboration.

“Over the past 80 years, the world has changed enormously, but the power of working together and the quality of Finnish boats have remained. Developing the operating conditions and competitiveness of boating companies through activity, cooperation and the highest level of expertise will continue now and in the future. Finnboat’s reputation and influence have been built over the past 80 years, and it is a privilege to continue this work together with our members,” Pajusalo concludes.
